USD to the MVFC!?!?

Credit Tom Douple with this from the Summit League, he worked his ass off with the MVFC to make this happen. Here's a write up from the AL website. Oh you stupid sioux, with your dumb name controversy. How will 13 teams work in the Big Sky?
Jackrabbit Nation will be split, but for the most part the Summit needed USD and got rid of SUU travel expenses. Really collapsed our footprint a little in the Summit, now only Oral Bob is a distance. That's a win.
As for football the Coyotes have two natural rivalries, and are trying to build one with UNI. It's good for the confernce in my opinion.

I've been pretty "against" USD in the MVFC, but I think this could be a good move. It "might" be protection against the realignment crap in the future.

Seriously though, I've heard a lot of FBS rumors about MSU, maybe USD was protection against MSU, ISUR, or SIU taking off in the next couple years

Well i definitely hope for the best for our former rivals, however in regards to the shifting conference scene North Dakota technically is not joining the Big Sky until July 1st 2012, which would give ample time for them or even South Dakota to change their minds and try to stay together. Not looking forward to a 13 team conference in the Big Sky otherwise.

Solution: Return *UND where they naturally belong... MVFC. Now you have a 12 team BSC. Even number. And you dont have the travel strain of UND. UND was too far to be in the sky anyway. 12 teams. perfect.

Reading YSU boards they would like into the OVC more than they want to stay in the MVFC. It sounds like they are gone in the next year or two

I don't think there was ever a deal in place. Offer? yes. Deal? No.

USD and UND have never been "married" or tied together in anyway as partners like SDSU and NDSU were. They transitioned separately, they had their own deals to make.

I haven't believed it...until now and I'm still not completely sure i believe it.


Montana and Montana State are gone to the WAC.
Big Sky needed teams to fill it, they put a ton of feelers out there and got interest from every school.
MVFC saw YSU looking to bolt, and for stabilization knew they needed to offer someone, but was holding out. When UND and SUU bolted and USD had the offer they knew they couldn't wait anymore and had to jump on USD with an offer.
