The ironic thing in all of this is that shortfalls in air superiority capabilities might bring back the F-22 as a less costly (!!), stopgap until another multirole next gen fighter can be developed.

This pisses me the FVCK OFF!! All of the wasted money that could have been used to build or upgrade our fighters that work.

Yes we know. That's all you ever say. But you also seem to not realize that at some point, you can't expect cutting edge technology to work well on old equipment. You wouldn't put the engine of 1969 Charger in a Model T, would ya?mrklean wrote:This pisses me the FVCK OFF!! Why attempt to improve anything? Just throw some Sidewinders and JDAM's and we're good to go.mrklean wrote:This pisses me the FVCK OFF!! All of the wasted money that could have been used to build or upgrade our fighters that work.

You have already been told by people who understand more than you about this that upgrading 1970's tech platforms is not an option and makes them no more survivable against the 4th gen platforms coming out of China and Russia.mrklean wrote:This pisses me the FVCK OFF!! I can't and won't defend the F-35, but I laugh each time Kleanzy posts his false premise that we should be simply upgrading technology from the late 60's and early 70's...

Yep- that's right. I think it caught on with some of the generals later when he tried to play military expert with themIbanez wrote:Hindenburg called him the "Bohemian Corporal"CID1990 wrote:

Edit: it was Paulus- he repeated Hindenburg when he said that he refused to shoot himself for a little shit like that "Bohemian corporal" - but he made the same mistake as Hindenburg - they both should have said "Bavarian corporal", but Hitler's birthplace also has a town by the same name in the Czech Republic (part of old Bohemia) and is probably why Hindenburg said Bohemia.

The F-35C Lightning II is a fifth generation, high performance, Multirole carrier-based stealth fighter, designed as a lower-cost alternative to the highly advanced F-22A Raptor. Since its introduction, the F-35C has been employed by various countries as a piecemeal stealth fighter, with mainstay operators like the Osean Maritime Defense Force, the Yuktobanian Air Force, and the Belkan Air Force, seeing service as early as 1995 and as late as 2020. Being an STOL aircraft as it is, it could effectively be launched from any catapult-equipped naval vessel, including those like the Nimitz-class aircraft carriers and Scinfaxi-class submarines.

The problem is that people think the DOD is an open ATM. But on the other hand they want to bitch about Obamacare. You can't have it both ways. I remember you telling me that that DOD was trying to get better at not trying to wasting money. I'm still waiting
Re: The F-35 Broke the U.S. Air Force...Yeah I told you so.
They are. I see it every day. Look at Joint Bases. COP systems. Back in 2009, I was part of an effort that sold off close to $60 million in gear. The reduction in gear allowed the Navy to consolidate it's warehouses and saved more money.mrklean wrote:Ibanez wrote: Are you seriously comparing a bomber to an agile, fighter jet?!

One of the many problems is that people like you want to update old technology and systems and expect them to be competitive. The F-35 is a great lesson for what NOT to do in terms of procurement. Obamacare was the same way. There's no reason why it should've cost more than $5M to design that website.

A lot of it. Remember, Congress continues to build war machines even though the Pentagon says they aren't needed. Why? The factory is in their district. I've posted many times how the Pentagon wants no more tanks yet Congress ignores them.houndawg wrote:We hear this a lot yet it keeps happening on an ever-growing scale.
