1. I'm a full time student, but too old for my parents' insurance.
2. I don't work full time to potentially get insurance that way.
3. Cheapest I've seen for OOP insurance is about $90 a month. I can't afford it. I realize I can't afford having something happen to me either, but that's about a sixth of what I bring home in a month, if I'm working decent hours. The only week I've worked decent hours lately has been this week, because of spring break. Normally, that then amounts to a fifth of my monthly income.
4. Second job, you say? If it was feasible, sure. But with the workload I have for grad school, it would be insanity to do that to myself. I'm also hoping to go do more reporting this summer, so I need to keep my schedule more flexible.

I'm not saying I want something for nothing--but I'd rather have something than nothing.

Hey, I told you last summer, sweetheart. Let me and Mr. Camera come visit you every other weekend for some glamour shots and that insurance will magically pay for itself.

OK, then I will. While he has few decent points, people like him and AZZGriz get their Depends in a bunch when "Big Government" is associated with services that benefit the common man - some welfare, medicare, nationalized health care. Meanwhile they proudly support/worship the US military and the trillions we spend on fighting nations to solely protect the economic interests of capitalists. I wish I had a nickel for how many times AZ and his league of like-minded jarhead minions praise the military - "the best in the world". So, we can have the best military in the world, but we cant provide an affordable health care option for the middle class? I say bullshit. This is about wealth distribution - distributing wealth from defense contractors to the common man.

Listen, big government is here to stay. The real question is not so much big government or not, it's who is big government going to benefit? Wall Mart Street has failed us. I say we begin to invest more in PFL, small business, manufacturing and the common man.
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

Hey, a guy has to eat. Anyway, I am not saying I agree with him. That was one of the first threads I read when I created my account on this forum and it popped into my head as I was catching up this morning. Myabe it is his use of the english language that did it, Shakesperian don't you think? ;)

Anyhow, I thought it might be appropriate as you all are discussing the same topic.

It's all good...

I fear we are drifting further and further away from what the Constitution says...into what folks want...and someday, the slippery slope will be too steep to ever recover...

Emotionally, wouldn't it be great to have the federal government provide good medical care to everyone???

Well, medical care is not one of the duties enumerated in the Constitution as a federal responsibility...

We're not talking here about the medical insurance the feds provide an employee...but medical care ala Canada or Great Britian...social medicine...

Someone will point out we're the only developed country that doesn't provide medical care...true...so, change the Constitution...don't just ignore it, or worse, violate it...

But that's too hard, someone will say...TOUGH SHlT...its suppose to be hard to change the Constitution...that way, when the change is made, we mean it (hopefully we learned our lesson with Prohibition)...

I'll get off my soap box now...

Think about this very carefully, Mikey - which country is the dumbass here, then? The faltering leviathan perpetuating an ineffectual defense organization in the post-Cold War protecting many nations against fvcking nothing or the country laughing at the leviathan for doing so and maintaining the world's best standard of living?

Oh, we're protecting them against terrorism, you meekly (but very Conkily) reply. Norway? Sheeit, did they bomb or invade anyone under false pretenses, do they piss people off all over the globe and set themselves up for terrorism?

God help us! There are peace-loving people in NATO! AAAAARGHHH!!!!!

Once again, the Champion Logic Leaper has again hurdled the Grand Canyon...

I simply expounded on a previous post...Did I say it was right...Did I say I approved...I simply stated fact...

A couple of years ago, the United States notified Iceland we were withdrawing our four fighter jets and two tankers, plus the air rescue folks we had based in Iceland...the notification came under the provisions of the NATO Treaty...

THEY WENT BALLISTIC...and to his credit, Bush II did not back down...we were wasting out money and manpower there...Now, Iceland has to pay for its own defense...we'll still respond under NATO if they are attacked...but they don't have much of a standing force AND DIDN'T WANT TO PAY FOR ONE!!!

Here you get seven years to finish. I know several people taking a class at a time while working. I'm doing the full time thing, so I'm trying to focus on that as much as possible. I'm actually having a lot of trouble with one class, and the stupid prof hasn't emailed me back after my long email asking for some direction and help. Aggravating. Plus I'm trying to figure out my research paper topic, and I don't know what to do that I can throw myself fully into researching and writing without getting bored with it.
