Tea Party 48%, Obama 44%

Post by native »

An interesting survey from Rasmussen suggests that "On major issues, 48% of voters say that the average Tea Party member is closer to their views than President Barack Obama. ... 44% hold the opposite view and believe the president’s views are closer to their own. ... Among voters not affiliated with either major political party, 50% say they’re closer to the Tea Party while 38% side with the President."

Really? And what, pray tell, is the "average Tea Party member"?

The moderate part of the lunatic fringe. :jack:

Once again you've managed to miss the point entirely. What did the survey tell these people the views of the so-called "average Tea Party member" were? Nobody knows what their views are except that they hate Obama and healthcare reform.

There are obviously strong themes of fiscal and social conservatism (mainly fiscal) among Tea Partiers, but there are also various strains of libertarianism and populism. Contrary to your progressive talking points, hatred is not the unifying theme.

Tea Partiers don't hate Obama. They hate dem policies and do not trust his ability to govern. There is plenty of justification - Obama is fvcking up the economy and their lives. But they don't particularly trust the repubs, either. If they did, the massive surge in Tea Party support would translate into Republican registration and support in the polls, but it does not.

That's why I think the overarching theme unifying Tea Party activists and the majority of Americans is that they “...don’t want to be governed from the left, the right, or the center. They want to govern themselves.” This is the theme of Scott Rasmussen's book, "In Search of Self-Governance."

Self-governance is difficult, at best, under the heavy debt and big government policies of repubs, but absolutely impossible under the massive debt and big government policies of the dems.

Instead of always going with the slam/attack maybe think once in awhile.

Since you pride yourself on being a leftist socialist it should shock the hell out of you that even the "lunatic fringe" on the other side is doing better than your boy.

That is just another on the long list of reasons proving Hussein Obama is a tool/handpuppet of Soros.

And I thought it wasnt legal to own slaves anymore?

As you already know, there is no single Tea Party organization. There are several of them, and they are trying to figure out their platforms.

Then you and Rasmussen probably shouldn't capitilize it. It makes it confusing.

Also, if there is no platform or actual party... how the fuck did he find this out:
On major issues, 48% of voters say that the average Tea Party member is closer to their views than President Barack Obama.
I can't view the crosstabs because I'm not a premium member... but, I'd be interested to see them if anyone is (baldy or native?).

Rasmussen surveyed voters, not "Tea Party" members, skelly. It is the voters who were surveyed who think Tea Party views are close to their own. ...must be because 48% of the electorate is ignorant white trash getting all their news from Fox.

Not a premium member. If I had the money for that, I wouldn't have the time for blogging. But I am off contract and my next contract doesn't start for a couple of week.

I know he surveyed voters. I'm wondering how he found their views to be more aligned with the Tea Party than Obama. He didn't ask them "Do you consider yourself a member of the Tea Party" because he asks something similar in another poll and gets ~21%... not 48%.

It sounds to me like he is asking questions on issues and then deciding based on the answers if the respondent is aligned more with the Tea Party or Barack Obama. I'm wondering how he can do that without a clearly defined Tea Party platform or actual Party.

From your article:
On major issues, 48% of voters say that the average Tea Party member is closer to their views than President Barack Obama.
(seems to be asking about random issues... it doesn't elaborate in the article... and placing them in the Obama camp or Tea Party camp)
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of likely voters finds the Democratic candidate earning 34% support, while the Republican gets 27% of the vote with the Tea Party hopeful in third at 21%. Nineteen percent (19%) of voters are undecided.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_ ... a_party_21" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(asks which "party" they're aligned with)

Quite a big difference. :?

He probably just asked them straight up. That is what Rasmussen does. He is not known for tricky or dishonest questions. Quite the opposite. In this case his proposition is very simple, not complicated or difficult to understand.

The generic ballot survey is not at issue on this thread. You are citing the wrong survey, skelly, and obfuscating the issue.

The question Rasmussen asked was:

"...When you think about the major issues facing the country, whose views are closest to your own President Barack Obama or the average tea party member?..."

The actual questions used on the Rasmussen survey which is the subject of this thread can be found at:

The salient point hasn't changed, norbert: Nobody knows what the "average Tea Party member" thinks because there is no such thing. Every one of those polled probably has a different interpretation of what an "average tea Party member" is.

Now quit being rude to guy who saved this sorry thread from the quick death it deserved.
