Just wait till the government starts taxing the ever living daylights out of pot
people will wish it was illegal again
I'm just saying tax any relatively easily produced product at sky high levels (where the majority of the cost of the product to the consumer is taxes) and a large number of people, if not a majority, will purchase black market.
People bring up alcohol. Right now alcohol is highly taxed in a lot of states (+ by the fed), but not to the level percentage wise that tobacco is in the high tax tobacco states.

Agreed. And no problem. But govt greed (local, state, and eventually fed) can't limit itself to the "right amount".kalm wrote:Tax just the right amount and it's a win-win. So where's the problem other than liberals like pot therefore pot bad?BDKJMU wrote:

How about legalize (or decriminalize) without any Government input? A win, win for all!BDKJMU wrote:Agreed. And no problem. But govt greed (local, state, and eventually fed) can't limit itself to the "right amount".kalm wrote:

25% on the sell in transaction and 25% on the sell out transaction
which amounts to an effective rate of 45% on the gross amount
is NOT taxing the sh!t out of something like Marijuana
I will explain why if you would like - but suffice to know DRUG CARTELS tax it far more than that
and secondly every Conservative claims "They don't care" which is a complete lie
We'll check how much they "don't care" in the coming votes

Another question. How can you get accurate data about a product, tobacco in this case, sold on the black market? If I'm buying, I ain't telling.BDKJMU wrote:I don't GAF one way or the other.Grizalltheway wrote: Who other than 89 and BDK are wishing that?

56.25% (1 x 1.25 x 1.25 = 1.5625). And that is all excise tax, no? Sales tax on top of that?
Just wait till its legal in numerous states. Some states are going to tax the piss out of it (a lot higher than now), and some states (or at least 1) won't tax it very high. And that will bring about black market smuggling...

But I will be against any conk candidate who says states shouldn't be allowed to legalize. It isn't spelled out in the constitution, so it should be none of the fed govt's business, and left up to the states. If a state wants to legalize it, states' rights. Goes for any other issue that isn't spelled out in the constitution. Why I disagree with the fed courts making rulings on state abortion or marriage laws. Should be left up to the states- states rights..

I don't care. Never have, never will. Even with tobacco, I really don't care about how government taxes it. Tax the ever living daylights out of it for all I care. Even when I was a heavy tobacco user I didn't care.Chizzang wrote:First of allBDKJMU wrote:

I suppose that is inconsistent with my general tilt towards libertarianism but I don't care.

Not caring and not voting for something are not the same thing. I'll bet most people don't care who wins the election for County Clerk, but I'll also bet most people don't abstain from that vote in the booth.
Given a choice of legalizing pot or not legalizing, I would probably choose not in my state. Will I spend time campaigning against it, no. Will I lose sleep over it if it passed, no. Do I care that Colorado has legalized, no. Do you see the difference here?

Forget the medium-quality product, how much is the legally obtainable, highest-quality product selling for, per ounce, in Washington State, and what name does it go by?Chizzang wrote:From Hen's clipped articles / proving my point

It's not legal in Florida yet, but it's gettin' close to being so...just doing some early research on the subject.
