He often uses hyperbole to address that demographic (i.e., Hitler would have had less success if people had guns), because exaggeration is a tool to express frustration, and the voters to which he appeals feel frustrated and marginalized.

Being a brilliant neurosurgeon isn't really the best experience for running for president.

He will eventually fade because he doesn't really have the political depth to be president.

He said that his faith gave him discipline and purpose. It caused him to have order in a life that had been chaotic and without purpose during his younger years. It caused him to strive to accomplish the things he realized he had the talent to do.

A brilliant neurosurgeon who opens up about his faith like that is going to quickly become popular.

It's funny that many people don't understand how faith can bring discipline and desire to maximize the gifts one possesses. Carson is getting attacked as being an "idiot" by people who have never accomplished a fraction of what he did. I think it's fair to observe his political shortcomings, but people who think he can't pour piss out of a boot unless the instructions are printed on the side, underestimate Carson and overestimate themselves. The Sagrada Familia was conceived, designed and built by one man.

There are certainly engineers and architects with divergent skill sets but the structures I posted were designed by architects with engineering skill sets. That to create something that will stand on its own requires engineering but to make it beautiful requires artistic ability- the most famous architects are at their cores engineers and artists. I think the kind of intelligence required for that is similar to that required of surgeons and dentists. My father was a dentist and he is a very good visual artist. He is very intelligent when it comes to how things work and interact, as well as what makes things aesthetically pleasing. He used to always say that he believed that the best dentists and surgeons were more artist than doctor - left brained rather than right brained.

Are you able to refute his idea with one of your own? This is what I see. The left runs with the base statement and doesn't address the fact he also explains why he said what he did.

The one that killed me was where the author was going on and on about how talented and intelligent Carson was as a student and subsequently a neurosurgeon, but couldn't grasp how Carson didn't believe evolution was the complete answer.

So you admit in your article that the man knows his biology, biochemistry, neurology and pretty much the human condition, but you cannot fathom how he looks at humans and believes there has to be more than just luck to our existence?

Ben Carson’s campaign on Friday admitted, in a response to an inquiry from POLITICO, that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The academy has occupied a central place in Carson’s tale for years. According to a story told in Carson’s book, “Gifted Hands,” the then-17 year old was introduced in 1969 to Gen. William Westmoreland, who had just ended his command of U.S. forces in Vietnam, and the two dined together. That meeting, according to Carson’s telling, was followed by a “full scholarship” to the military academy.

West Point, however, has no record of Carson applying, much less being extended admission.

“In 1969, those who would have completed the entire process would have received their acceptance letters from the Army Adjutant General,” said Theresa Brinkerhoff, a spokeswoman for the academy. She said West Point has no records that indicate Carson even began the application process. “If he chose to pursue (the application process) then we would have records indicating such,” she said.

When presented with this evidence, Carson’s campaign conceded the story was false.
