Exception to the rule. Architects have the artistic responsibilities. Engineers generally do not. I'm sure CID was going for Architects and Artists.

I wouldn't say moronic. He's just speaking about a lot of matters he never previously had reason to think a lot about, and he's being told by advisers to speak in a way that appeals to a demographic. He often uses hyperbole to address that demographic (i.e., Hitler would have had less success if people had guns), because exaggeration is a tool to express frustration, and the voters to which he appeals feel frustrated and marginalized.

Being a brilliant neurosurgeon isn't really the best experience for running for president.

He will eventually fade because he doesn't really have the political depth to be president.
So why is he running for a position that requires thinking about a lot of matters he's never thought about?

You'd have to ask him.

Look, as he wrapped up his career in medicine, Carson was feted in many places, and had the chance to express his faith when he spoke and accepted these honors. He said that his faith gave him discipline and purpose. It caused him to have order in a life that had been chaotic and without purpose during his younger years. It caused him to strive to accomplish the things he realized he had the talent to do.

A brilliant neurosurgeon who opens up about his faith like that is going to quickly become popular.

It's funny that many people don't understand how faith can bring discipline and desire to maximize the gifts one possesses. Carson is getting attacked as being an "idiot" by people who have never accomplished a fraction of what he did. I think it's fair to observe his political shortcomings, but people who think he can't pour piss out of a boot unless the instructions are printed on the side, underestimate Carson and overestimate themselves. When they conceive of pioneering surgical techniques to separate conjoined twins, let me know.

The Sagrada Familia was conceived, designed and built by one man.

There are certainly engineers and architects with divergent skill sets but the structures I posted were designed by architects with engineering skill sets. That to create something that will stand on its own requires engineering but to make it beautiful requires artistic ability- the most famous architects are at their cores engineers and artists. I think the kind of intelligence required for that is similar to that required of surgeons and dentists. My father was a dentist and he is a very good visual artist. He is very intelligent when it comes to how things work and interact, as well as what makes things aesthetically pleasing. He used to always say that he believed that the best dentists and surgeons were more artist than doctor - left brained rather than right brained.

He gets attacked for saying things like the Department of Education should be used to monitor political speech on campuses.

There's no question he's a talented surgeon. There's also no question that religion can teach discipline. Everyone has the strengths. Maybe deep thinking is not one of his. :)

Are you able to refute his idea with one of your own? This is what I see. The left runs with the base statement and doesn't address the fact he also explains why he said what he did.

The one that killed me was where the author was going on and on about how talented and intelligent Carson was as a student and subsequently a neurosurgeon, but couldn't grasp how Carson didn't believe evolution was the complete answer.

So you admit in your article that the man knows his biology, biochemistry, neurology and pretty much the human condition, but you cannot fathom how he looks at humans and believes there has to be more than just luck to our existence?

For this he is labeled as stupid by the author.

 :suspicious:
Ben Carson stood by his long-held belief about ancient pyramids in Egypt, that they were used to store grain, rather than to inter pharaohs.

Asked about this Wednesday, Carson told CBS News, "It's still my belief, yes."

The subject came up when Buzzfeed published a 1998 commencement speech delivered by Carson at Andrews University, a college founded by Seventh-day Adventists.

"My own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids to store grain," Carson said. "Now all the archeologists think that they were made for the pharaohs' graves. But, you know, it would have to be something awfully big if you stop and think about it. And I don't think it'd just disappear over the course of time to store that much grain."

In the same speech, he went on to say, "[W]hen you look at the way that the pyramids are made, with many chambers that are hermetically sealed, they'd have to be that way for various reasons. And various of scientists have said, 'Well, you know there were alien beings that came down and they have special knowledge and that's how--' you know, it doesn't require an alien being when God is with you."

Carson reiterated to CBS News that "the pyramids were made in a way that they had hermetically sealed compartments....You would need that if you were trying to preserve grain for a long period of time."

What Carson has in mind here is the seven years of plenty in Egypt, referred to in Genesis, when "Joseph stored up grain in great abundance like the sand of the sea, until he stopped measuring it, for it was beyond measure." In the Bible, Joseph fed Egypt and the rest of the world during the seven years of drought that followed.

I think Carson's cheese is sliding off his cracker a little bit.

I mean, everybody knows aliens built the pyramids. Duh. :dunce:

He seems like a very articulate, very intelligent, very thoughtful man who wants to do the right things. Kind of like the Jimmy Carter experiment, which really didn't work out so well. As my dad said of Carter, "he was too good a man to be president."

Aaaaaaaannnnndddd.....done.
Ben Carson’s campaign on Friday admitted, in a response to an inquiry from POLITICO, that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The academy has occupied a central place in Carson’s tale for years. According to a story told in Carson’s book, “Gifted Hands,” the then-17 year old was introduced in 1969 to Gen. William Westmoreland, who had just ended his command of U.S. forces in Vietnam, and the two dined together. That meeting, according to Carson’s telling, was followed by a “full scholarship” to the military academy.

West Point, however, has no record of Carson applying, much less being extended admission.

“In 1969, those who would have completed the entire process would have received their acceptance letters from the Army Adjutant General,” said Theresa Brinkerhoff, a spokeswoman for the academy. She said West Point has no records that indicate Carson even began the application process. “If he chose to pursue (the application process) then we would have records indicating such,” she said.

When presented with this evidence, Carson’s campaign conceded the story was false.
