Disagreeing with someone, getting annoyed with someone or just plain not liking someone is one thing. But I don't think I'd ever be glad someone died. That's pathetic.

I think that if someone says there are no circumstances in which they would be glad to see someone die they are either lying or they haven't really thought about it.

It's when the beliefs have effects that those beliefs count. Like suppose someone's ideology is mid 20th century style fascism and they actually gain power. Now they're doing all the sorts of things mid 20th century style fascists did when they were in power. You know, like if anybody says something critical of them they get hung with piano wire or something like that. Maybe they pick some group to demonize and exterminate. I don't know...let's say they say they're going to immediately execute anybody of obvious Asian ancestry. And lets say that their death would mean at least a chance to put an end to that sort of thing. Perfectly reasonable to be glad if they drop dead from a heart attack one day.

Anyway I'm not glad if some liberal who has no impact on anything dies. But if there is a Supreme Court Justice who believes in Liberal Constitutional Revisionism those beliefs have real impacts. It's not what they believe per se. It's what they DO as a result of those beliefs and their being in a position of power. And yes if they happen to die at a time when there's a good chance to replace them with a Justice who believes in actually following the Constitution (i.e., proceed according to Original Understanding) I am thrilled. It's a positive thing.
