sounds like your backbone has been replaced by nuance.
It has nothing to do with backbone or nuance. I invite any rational person to think about a scenario in which Donald Trump is President of the United States. We simply cannot allow that to happen.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

I disagree. A year ago I could never have envisioned a circumstance in which I would vote for Hillary. But the emergence of Donald Trump has changed things. There is no way that I could ever vote in a way that would increase the chances of Donald Trump being President. As bad as Hillary being President would be, Donald Trump being President would be worse.

As I told my wife a couple of months ago: If we got into a theoretical situation in which my vote was going to decide who would be President between Hillary and Trump, I would have to hold my nose really hard and vote for Hillary.

If it's Trump vs. Hillary in the general election and it looks like Louisiana is in play I am going to vote for Hillary.
No he wouldn't. He might be a fucking disaster. I KNOW she will be a fucking disaster. But if you want to be a phony conservative, its a free country..

This. We know what hilldog will do and how she will act as POTUS. Trump is an unknown, and it's looking more and more everyday like he is just trolling conks to win the primary. I mean, he's going to cut deals so it really won't be too far off from the establishment conks already in DC.

Now Trump won't beat hilldog in the general so there's that...

Dubya sure had his "Bernie moments," like the prescription drug benefit and NCLB. Whenever somebody calls himself a "compassionate conservative," you instinctively cover up your wallet.

Hillary is a neocon in the Dubya mold. She's all for big government, Wall St and foreign adventurism.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Conservative isn't some neat little ideology that can be easily defined. There are multiple types of conservatives and people tend to think that their brand of conservatism is the one true conservatism. Neocons, social conservatives, fiscal conservatives, etc. Dubya was a neocon who played the game and made compromises. To me as a libertarian, he was the worst possible combination - social conservative and fiscal liberal with a propensity to get the US involved in every conflict possible. Dubya and Rand Paul are close to being opposites, Kalm would you argue that Rand Paul isn't a real conservative?

She's only liberal on social issues...
Otherwise she is
100% Wall Street / 100% Conglomeration / 100% Military Intervention

The difference between Large Scale System Democrats and Large Scale System Republicans is:
1) Planned Parenthood 2) Affordable Care Act 3) 2nd Amendment interpretation

Other than that they're all the same...

And I won't. But on this board, which seems to be 80% self-righteous Libertarian, you don't see anyone trying to actually organize a third party to elect some legislators (remember them? ) to back up Gary Johnson, Jill Steinbaumwitzberg, or any other flavor-of-the-month Prez candidate.

Hillary is a rational human being. Trump is not. In my opinion the risk associated with putting that Looney Tune in the White House is off the charts.

Ahem...I'll have you know that the left-libertarian Kalmunist Party of Eastern Washington is well organized and VERY active.

Our platform:

Fuck Starbucks, AB, and Miller-Coors, support indie coffee shops and craft breweries.

Secession from Western Washington, joining N. Idaho (OK, not all of N. Idaho, we want to avoid the rednecks and neo-nazis but we're cool with places like Sand Point, Coeur d' Alene), and Western Montana to form the 51st State of Washidmo...or Columbia, or something like that.

Promote sustainable agriculture and forestry practices, forming a coalition between land owners, farmers, ranchers, loggers, and dirty hippie environmentalists. This coalition will host modern day chatauquas in the rolling hills of the Palouse, across the desert plateaus and coulees of the Columbia Basin, and in the mountain river valley's of the Bitteroots and Selkirks, literally attracting dozens of people who all share a love of Norman Mclean, Rick Bass, the Decemberists, and Elk tenderloin.

Build a wall at the top of Snoqualmie pass (and make the Udub pay for it) where we will charge Seattleites an admission fee for flyfishing our streams and lakes, taking advantage of our superior snow, enjoying Walla Walla wine tours, and experiencing direct sunlight. Collected fees will be used to complete the Gateway Project.

Support Gary Johnson and rub that in the faces of establishment Democrats and Republicans.

You can call us legion for we are many!

No. There's hasn't been a strong anti-intellectualism streak running through the "conservative" side for awhile now. Uh, uh. Not at all.

And what does he mean, obstructionist? It's not as if that's one of the core values of conservatism. :suspicious:

OK, the populism thing, made me pause too. But it's not as if movement conservatism, with a mistrust of liberal elites in government and the private sector (Soros?) is insignificant or can't be labeled as a form of populism. There's still a Tea Party caucus, right? In fact, isn't their a Tea Party type candidate doing fairly well right now?

Or are you that afraid of certain labels?

Clam down, Nancy.

I am merely pointing out that your preening hero is no different from those he disagrees with- and he isn't an intellectual - he pretends to be one (since you missed the nickname I gave him apparently)

tut tutting people like some professor of anthropology at EWU or some other directional school is not how you do it....

My last point is simply that- Trump is little different from Bernie if people want to talk about mid-twentieth century political/ideological failures- the Democratic Party has a problem too... they just haven't noticed it yet because Bernie is a lot closer to their "center" than Trump is to the GOP's
