You probably need to read your own link then:
The Federal Trade Commission maintains jurisdiction over most aspects of the Internet. But after the 2016 election during the lame-duck session, another Washington agency called the Federal Communications Commission issued new regulations related specifically to Internet service providers, also known as ISPs. (You’ve probably heard of some of the country’s biggest ISPs, which include Comcast, Verizon, AT&T;, Time Warner, Cox, and CenturyLink.)

You know, I think it's bad that ISPs want to do this sort of thing. But, you also know, you have the right not to choose an ISP if they want to do that. If enough people said, "I'm not going for that" you would see ISP providers who would say, "we're not going to do that."
If I am an ISP, I have and SHOULD have the right to say "if you want me to be your ISP this is the deal." And you have the right to say, "No thanks."

"Manipulate what you see" and "Sell it all".... that's the way it is now, isn't it? All my pop up ads are recent searches, keywords on this site, etc... Maybe there's a way to block it, but I'm lazy and stupid when it comes to internet security, like most people. I'm not saying we should allow more, but this seems like old news.
How about this invasion of privacy? If a lender pulls your credit report because you're applying for a loan (or pre-approval) the credit bureaus can sell the information that you've had your credit pulled by a lender to other lenders. So Wells Fargo knows to call you about a mortgage because you're shopping with your bank or lender. I still can't believe that one is allowed, but I know for a fact it is.

Looks like it's time to for everyone to start setting up their own VPNs. That won't totally protect you but you can at least make it difficult for your ISP to collect your history. Also, keep in mind that any https site you visit limit what an ISP can see. While they can collect the information like the domain name and when you’re visiting, they can't the individual pages you visit or what information you’re sending(packets).
It's not perfect but if this is going to be law, setting up a VPN is a "solution."

Re: Senate passes Res. J34
I think your confusing the the wonders of internet marketing with Comcast looking at your browser history and selling what they find? You go to 5 site looking for golf clubs, then when you come here you see ads for Ping or Titelist, that's Google AdSense. It's still data collection but, as I understand, it isn't being sold. It's being used to market products.89Hen wrote:"Manipulate what you see" and "Sell it all".... that's the way it is now, isn't it? All my pop up ads are recent searches, keywords on this site, etc... You could argue that the credit bureaus giving out information that lenders are pulling your credit information is a consumer friendly thing - you may have only looked at one lender when if you were presented with more options you might find a lender that gives you a better deal. That's a good thing, no? Regardless, you don't need to act on other lenders trying to contact you. I just started a new loan and I politely ignored the e-mails and phone calls from other vendors trying to get my business. It wasn't that hard.89Hen wrote:"Manipulate what you see" and "Sell it all".... that's the way it is now, isn't it? All my pop up ads are recent searches, keywords on this site, etc...
