North Korean missiles are based on very old technology, and they keep re-engineering that same tech with old materials technology. I spent some time a few years back with one of the experts on their missile programs and saw some pieces. We're talking 1950s technology, produced from scratch in 2005. It's like looking at pieces of the guts of something built in 1950 with crude, poorly machined components. They are good at producing new Scud missiles but that's about all they are, under the surface. Once you try to push the envelope on them they fail. They've advanced some since 2005, but not that much.

This is why I say I doubt very seriously we have the ability to "hack" these things- they are literally running off of vacuum tube tech.

We need to just ignore them. This week's hysteria has been exactly what they want.

Regime Change and Nation Building? Jesus, have we not learned that that doesn't work out in our favor? Let its allies, China and Russia, deal with them. CHina and Russia have been growing tired of NorKors **** (look at public opinion in those countries as well as statements from the Gov't). NorKors #1 trading partner is China. Let them duke it out. If NorKor trys to attack one our allies, we should take action. But let's leave the pre-emptive strikes alone.

The problem with NK is that we are stuck in this paradigm cycle- we ignore the Kims, they beat the drum, we offer them food aid to not do it (and call it an "agreement"), the Kims go away for a while. Then when they are not being paid sufficient attention, they beat the drum again. Rinse, repeat.

Doing nothing and doing what we are currently doing are the two options we have to break that cycle.

I normally default to the do nothing stance, but given China's posture over the last couple weeks I'm a bit intrigued. They have sent some very clear messages to NK to knock it off. I say keep the carrier BG over there for a bit and see what shakes out.
