No, not every. I'm sure there are some outliers like Ganny's family. But I think most welfare recipients aspire to climbing out of the cellar.CAA Flagship wrote:You think that every recipient would forego welfare for a job?kalm wrote:

I know that disputed a popular conk meme so I understand the consternation in these replies.
Do you think every corporate welfare case would forego government assistance? I'm sure there are loads of businesses who say "thanks, but no thanks" while adjusting their bootstraps...

But this... This is hilarious
If you think Republican heads exploded over $15 minimum wage (and they did)
Wait till you see the implosion happen over this !!!
And there's no coming back from this cliff
once the poor and unemployable and capitalism haters catch wind of this
the momentum will be tsunami-esque

If its true, that statement is one of the dumbest you have ever made...and that's going pretty far...
Any Republican/conservative (there is sometimes a big difference) operating a business and wanting to succeed will pay what ever the prevailing wage is in their area to succeed...minimum wages aside,..
$15 an hour nationally is a total economic joke...in NYC, or ATL, it may not be enough...but get out into other parts of the country, and its way too much...
A good business operator will pay more than minimum wage if its necessary to attract better employees than their nearest competitor...

Yes I do operate a business. However, I'm the only employee. People should earn a living wage. You would not work for $2/HR. But its ok for someone else to make that. So Typical

Before we get to 2020 it is going to be viewed as a "right" and anyone opposed to it is going to be in favor of letting children starve and die

Re: Today's Economic Lesson
I don't think anyone would argue that people shouldn't do work to earn a living wage. The question that comes up, however, is what work is worth a living wage? If someone advertises work for $2/hr, that's only too low if there aren't any takers for that $2/hr job. You set the price at the level of 1) what you can afford and 2) the skill of employee you need for the job and 3) what the market will bear. But it's up to the job seeker to find the job(s) that they can work that fits their lives and pays them what they need to have a living wage. If that $2/hr job involves little skill and little creativity, then it could be priced correctly. And likely, it's not the job that someone looking for a living wage should consider. If that's all that you can do as a worker, well, it's time to get some better skills.mrklean wrote:
