Weeeeee!!!

Ok, I don't approve of his tactics but he's spot on in his reasoning on freedom.
Acts of Faith
Why one man keeps ramming his car into Ten Commandments statues on government property

“I’m a firm believer that for our salvation we not only have faith in Jesus Christ, but we also obey the commands of God and that we confess Jesus as Lord,” he says in the post. “But one thing I do not support is the violation of our constitutional right to have the freedom that’s guaranteed to us, that guarantees us the separation of church and state, because no one religion should the government represent.”

I dunno. I get the separation of church and state, but IMO it's a reach to say that this monument somehow establishes a religion on behalf of the state. They aren't asking people to read and memorize the 10C.

Firstly,
Your observation is mostly irrelevant...
Like arguing that a pornographic billboard doesn't "force anybody to look at it"
So I don't see why it would be illegal - just don't look

Yeesh...
But as the Old Testament goes
The Ten Commandments are about the only logical reasonable tenets in the whole damned thing
So of all the religious "things" a government could pick to illegally display at the cost of tax payers dollars
The Ten Commandments are about as tame as they get...

So I don't really care
But
Let me explain:
By hiring and paying for a religious monument at the expense of local tax payers
The Government is favoring a religion of preference
It is a clear infringement of the Establishment clause in the constitution

It's pretty cut and dry really
But it confuses people for some reason
But I do enjoy the "Just don't look at it then" defense

AFAIK Cleetus, the monument in Arkansas was privately funded, so your argument really loses a lot of steam there alone. So again, I'm not seeing how this establishes a religion on behalf of the state. But beyond that, local governments spend a LOT of money on things that many people find annoying, offensive, wasteful, etc... My county hosted a rally after the national election to protest the election of Trump. That was on the County dime... MY dime.

Like I said in my first post... I dunno, meaning I'm not sure about this.

I couldn't read the article it was blocked
So if it is privately funded
why is "The Government" allowing religious monuments on state property..?
I'm certain there's more to that story - could a Satanic monument get built right next to it..? (I bet not)

But all-in-all the Ten Commandments are harmless
and honestly I don't care

Yes I see... it's already been round the circuit a few times
It stays on the grounds that it has both a nondenominational religious and secular message simultaneously

They're blank slabs.

There's also Confucious and Solon.

It's not the same as a slab that says "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" or "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy." --> what is the secular message here? :? What is establisment of religion if not a government building proclaiming you shall have no gods other than the God of Abraham? :?

If other Ten Commandment monuments were blank and also had Confucious, Hammurabi, or other historical law givers... it would pass the Lemon Test very easily. :twocents:

Aside from zero people's constitutional rights to worship being denied by not allowing religious symbolism in the public square, what's so important or even rational about the 10 C's?

"God's plan" is a cop out. I have trouble believing it's God's plan to have children neglected, abused and murdered by their parents (for example).
