In the end it wasn't denied. His point was I am sticking to my guns until someone makes me take it. What was he suppose to do, as soon as Obama said not say, ok I'll take it. Might has well never have raised the argument.

And I think you missed my point. He and everyone else knew his request would be denied. Unless he was willing to stand his ground which he did then there was no point in starting the fight in the first place. He was supposed to simply say, Hey Obama let me pay down the debt knowing full well the answer would be no and then simply say OK.MarkCCU wrote:His request to use the funds in the manner he wanted was denied.OL FU wrote:

IF that is the case then there was no point in making the request or the argument to start.

What, exactly did Sanford promise Condon? The reason I ask is because there was never a record of that.MarkCCU wrote:I was at Port City Grille, after working on the Condon campaign, when Sanford said so days after his election.CID1990 wrote:
I don't think he promised Charlie anything. I think it was understood as a tradition of old SC politics that he would give Condon a bone, but Sanford is anything but a good old boy traditionalist. Condon on the other hand is the poster boy for that.
The reason it does not make sense is that Sanford had absolutely no reason to offer Condon a position, and quite frankly, I can't see Condon even wanting a cabinet position considering that he had already been the AG which is much more prestigious. Secondly, Peeler had about three times the primary votes as Condon. In other words, if there was a political motivation to offer anyone a cabinet position it would have been to Peeler. The 2002 primary really wound up being a referendum on Condon, and he lost big time. Another thing to consider is that the non-scandal about the McCain push poll had not been resolved at that point, if my memory serves me correctly. It was unfortunate for Condon, but Sanford would have been a fool to offer before Condon had been cleared.

There was some regional things and it came about Condon asking his supporters to back Sanford. This type of shit happens all the time, most people make good on it.CID1990 wrote:What, exactly did Sanford promise Condon? The reason I ask is because there was never a record of that.MarkCCU wrote:

The Gville news is reporting the return of our long lost governor this morning. I am going to guess that he is going to act bemused over the uproar and say something like the governor in this state has so little authority why would anyone be concerned about a 6 day absence.
Or it could be like someone told me yesterday. Mark Sanford will say " The legislature has been telling me to take a hike for years so I finally took their advice".
