I think that's a good point. If someone runs for governor and says I am going to drink until I puke and screw every woman that comes in my office and you get elected then you have Appa's vote

I realize that the gay issue is a lot more important to you than most. I can never remember voting for candidate whom I agreed with 100%.

Who do you vote for if you are a small government fiscal conservative, supporter of gay marriage but don't think it is a constitutional right, pro-abortion but anti Roe v Wade, strong supporter of the first amendment and opposed to almost all government intrusions into one's personal life from books we read to who we sleep with and including reaching into a person's private property (income and taking excessive amounts of taxes). A republican on fiscal issues even though there are few republicans that really believe that, A democrat on social issues, A republican on constitutional issues ( mostly not all the time, I certainly think the legislature should take some of their power back that they have delegated over the years to the executive branch ) and probably split the difference between dems and repubs on defense and foreign policy. :?

Remember Diogenes of Sinope, the old character who always carried a lamp in search of an honest man? Well, the Republican Party's Diogenes is searching for a Presidential candidate who can "keep it zipped." (Pace Eliot Spitzer....the flaw crosses party lines.) :shake:

Apparently as long as you can keep it zipped it doesn't matter if you think there's 57 states, can't speak a coherent sentence without a teleprompter, and have issues with "gayness".

I think Sanford will too. He's already realized this doesn't entitle him to be the Republican Governor's torchbearer.

THere's only time.

I was in Moncks Corner last weekend and there was a sign that said, " Mark Sanford Sucks" and that Lindsey Graham was a rat...something. I was going to fast on the return trip to read it.

Mark, i think the point is more that Sanford was one of those "family values" drones who decried gay marriage as "violating the sanctity of marriage" then when out and violated the sanctity of his own...

i dont think comparisons to McGreevey or Spitzer are apt, as they haven't built their careers on being holier than thou... just like larry craig... the hypocrisy is the problem IMO.

I understand the hypocrisy, but you do really think Democrats like McGreevy or Spitzer would have advertised themselves as Anti-Family Values?

Of course not, the difference is that Republicans use that to set them apart. Yes, he fvcked up but let's not forget that there are people like McGreevy, Spitzer and Clinton that have done this. Hell, Clinton used the police to round up his bitches.

not a single one of them campaigned by whipping up their voters to repudiate people who were "anti-family" and he has... that's the difference. this guy made his career out of scaring other voters that his opponents wanted to "destroy the American family" and "end marriage as we know it" meanwhile he's out being an adulterer...
