I’m equally aware of those who self identify as liberal today (or conservative) but who support ideas that are illiberal and reduce liberty.
Take for instance those who you use made up words like “libtard” or "nazi". While they’re more than at least likely half a tard or nazi themselves, I would never deny their right to use it.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

I agree with that and I never use the word Nazi. Even regarding Nazis from Illinois.UNI88 wrote:FYPkalm wrote:

No...it’s just a word...that’s been misappropriated, co-opted to suit politics. It frightens and confuses the weak minded minded such as yourself.JBB wrote:Col Hogan is of course absolutely correct. It saddens me that we allowed words and symbols to be co-opted. I consider myself both a liberal and a conservative.kalm wrote:No...it’s just a word...that’s been misappropriated, co-opted to suit politics. It frightens and confuses the weak minded minded such as yourself.JBB wrote:

Rather than letting hate groups on either side co-opt a word or symbol, we should take them back. Nike shouldn't have canceled the Betsy Ross sneaker because Kapernick thought it had been co-opted by racist groups. They should have released it and encouraged minorities everywhere to wear the shoe as a symbol of freedom and a sign of defiance of racist ideologies. No white supremacist group is going to keep using a symbol that is being celebrated by black and brown people.

I’ve been told I’m a Nazi by at least two people active on this board...are they weak minded, or do you agree with them???
I am not a Republican, but I am a constitutional conservative...
Most liberals I know are not libtards...but there are a few on this board...active posters...and its a word that combines their political (liberal) and their outlook (retarded)...
Maybe it should be progtard...so I don’t insult liberals...

You can say libtard or progtard all you’d like. I’m not a PC maven. But having two cousins with Down’s syndrome and a friend with a kid who also has it means I’m going to make fun of you for using it. For instance...since blacks have pushed back against use of the word nigger, some conservatives have satiated their need to punch down by switching their aim to a new target...the developmentally disabled. They don’t fight back as hard.

Whoa! That would be like a MAJOR burn if 1) I supported Common Core, and 2) it hadn’t started 21 years after I graduated high school.JBB wrote:kalm wrote:

Why do you bother to talk if words mean nothing or, like college campuses, news papers, football boards and other internet platforms etc etc etc, is it only the words liberals approve of that have meaning?
And when did I say words mean nothing or that their use should be regulated? I have a huge problem with the social justice movement. It’s illiberal. That doesn’t mean you can say or misuse words however you like without being criticized. If you had better reading comprehension you’d find I said the opposite of what you just asserted. Perhaps you might benefit from a Common Core education?

Neither of my grandsons are bad-behaving at all...they have issues dealing with strange people...they have issues with changes in schedules...both are very smart, with one reading and doing math several grade levels above their age...
