Bummed I didn't get to watch either semifinal game, but looks like neither were close, as I expected.

I made a note of when I knew each game was over and turned the station. It was with 10 minutes and change left in the 2nd quarter in the NDSU game and with 12 minutes and change left in the 2nd quarter of the JMU game.

You missed two quarters and seven minutes of compelling football. I.e. not much.

Just discovered 5Dimes has the game up. Not under college extra this week

They have NDSU -1.5; O/U 55.5. (GAM: NDSU -2; O/U 54)

Juice all over the place. Can’t even take NDSU straight up. Have to put down 135 to get 100.

We screwed around with their high juice bets in the playoffs with little success. We may sit this one out, depending on what happens. High juice will keep the volume down for them. They may be forced off their safe position if they want action. If not let someone else pay them. We still have nearly 2000 of theirs and would like to keep it.

According research team, there may be a historical factor in all this. Bison is a French word pronounced “Bee-zohn,” and our pronunciation may have its roots there, going back generations to the area’s early fur traders and explorers. “Winnipeg has a significant French influence, so it’s very possible we borrowed from them. That would also explain why hardly anyone else in the U.S. says it that way,” Barta said.

Of course hardly anyone else in America pronounces it that way. Most of the rest of America don't pronounce things like faggity ass Frenchmen.

2016. Biggest win in JMU history?

Some JMU fans argue that point. They argue with the other 3/4 schools that have beaten the Bison in the last 10 years about the big wins place in their historical wins. They argue with Bison fans too.

If the win in Fargo wasn’t the biggest win in JMU history which win has gotten JMU the most mileage from bragging rights? After all no other fan base can brag that they (JMU) along with NDSU have combined to win the last nine FCS titles as they like to remind people.

NDSU can only repeat here. The BISON are at the top. This is a big game to be sure. Oregon is bigger but this win is necessary to bring the streak to Oregon. JMU is in the way. The 10 million dollar gold plated football team has been trying to buy this title but 10 million isn’t enough. Iowa spent 30 million, Kansas State about 20. BISON win. Oregon is at 28 million. NDSU about 5.5.

It’s almost Christmas. Merry Christmas!

Barta really doesn’t know.

Boyd Christensen (God bless) old time voice of the Bison well before the turn of the century and the Fabulous Fargo Dome called them the BI-Son (I is long, accent on first syllable and the second). It stuck. It’s a local convention. Not in a dictionary. He was one of the greats in the booth for years. A BI-Son legend before “Shoutin Ed Schultz” (God bless).

“The BI-Son are moving from left to right on your radio dial.

Roller takes the pitch to the left side cuts up breaks a tackle, He’s in, BI-Son score!”

For those that drive 8 hours, 3 straight weeks to playoff games, the break is more than welcome. Plenty of time to make plans, enjoy the holidays, and finish them off with a great football game.

This report says the total of NDSU university and support was $9M https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/

I honestly don't even try to analyze college athletic budgets because there are so many different approaches to the accounting. You can really spin stats to support whatever your agenda is in many cases.

JMU really does have some wild ass student fees though (almost $39M). NDSU is $1.5M. Delaware is $0.

And of course, these numbers are the total athletic budgets. Does NDSU field as many student-athletes as JMU does?

From 2 years ago:
BDKJMU wrote: One thing about that 47 million+ is Virginia schools JMU's athletic budget is stuff schools in many other states don't count under their athletic dept budgets, like debt services & other infrastructure related costs, band, spirit groups, services paid by the athletic dept to the univ for various stuff, etc. Different states have different accounting rules as to what is counted under atheltic budgets vs general. Allow VA schools to use the accounting rules in some other states and about 20-25% of that 47+ million could be shift elsewhere.

That and JMU fully funds all 17 varsity sports (11 women, 6 men's), something a lot of other mid majors don't do..Part of that is Title IX and the "problem" of about 60% female student body..

I just used an on line random sequence generator. Asked it to randomly put 1 and 2 in order with 1 being NDSU and 2 being JMU. Sequence came out 2, 1 so JMU is picked.

I look at it as very close to a 50:50 proposition.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Gil Dobie wrote:It will be interesting to see how this young Bison team, with a first year coach, does against this experienced JMU team. Should be an interesting game. Might just come down to turnovers. Looks like that is what happened with Stony Brook taking JMU to OT.
NDSU isn‘t that young. According to the most recent NDSU & JMU game notes, of the 22 listed starters (excluding special teams):
NDSU 8 seniors/7 juniors.
JMU 12 seniors/10 juniors.

Expand it to the entire 2 deep (excluding special teams):
NDSU: 13 seniors/12 juniors
JMU: 15 seniors/19 juniors

https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/ ... 191216.pdf
https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/ ... _Weber.pdf

JMU is more experienced than NDSU, and the avg team, with all their starters, and over 3/4 of their 46 listed on the (non special teams) 2 deep, as juniors and seniors.
But about 2/3 of NDSU‘s starters, and almost 60% of their 44 listed on their deep, are juniors & seniors. That‘s probably around average in terms of experience. Not young.
