You were in Italy recently, right? I've traveled to Europe in different times of the year and I have NEVER seen massive groups of Asians in any other European city/capital like I saw in Rome and Italy in general. I'm not surprised that Italy is becoming a hot zone.

Vietnamese stock market is tanking but the gold market is going into space... gold in VN is selling higher than the world market for the first time ever (most Viets still save gold so their market can be more reactive to crises)

It is proven to be transmissible by asymptomatic carriers, and is largely airborne

It can cause either a mild, hardly detectable fever, OR it can open lesions in the lungs and damage them so badly that organ failure and death are inevitable. It really likes middle aged men with preexisting conditions (which many middle aged men have)

I am heading to Siem Reap Cambodia this weekend but giving serious thought to cancelling because the airport I have to go through in Bangkok is full of Chinese tourists... Thailand doesn’t want to shut down the tourist dollars ... so we’ll see. Thailand has said that anyone transiting pretty much any country in SE Asia other than Cambodia cannot enter any school for 2 weeks. The international schools here are all on break for a week and we guesstimate that as many as 1/3rd of the teachers and students in my kids’ school will be stuck at home on self quarantine when they get back.

I also don’t have much desire to head back to the US right now because the only available gov tix are for transiting Incheon and Narita. So trying to avoid those airtight, recirculating metal tubes for now

I think Iran is even worst off and probably lost containment a while ago without realizing it. I doubt they have any experience tracking or containing highly infectious viruses, and worst is that Iranians trade, travel, and do tons of business throughout the region.

Heck, their Health Minister just tested positive for the virus.

Hasn't affected US airlines yet (737 Max been a bigger issue), but I imagine the industry and my job is gonna be feeling it at some point.

That whole thing started with the Thai Minister of Health - he said that Thailand would be fine because of the hot weather.

And all that is coming from SARS- which does in fact die when exposed to air over 100 degrees F. In fact it was summer that put a stop to that outbreak.

But nobody really knows yet if COVID-19 will be that sensitive.
