In this instance, the executive managed to secure the supplies, but what is most horrifying about his account is that this experience was not all that surprising to him — he expected interference from federal officials, and did everything he could (including staging the shipment in food-service trucks to avoid detection) to get around that interference.
Those measures do not seem unusual, horrifyingly enough. Last month, 3 million masks ordered by the state of Massachusetts were seized by the federal government. Last week, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that the governor of Illinois, J.B. Pritzker, was arranging secret chartered flights of supplies as a way of outmaneuvering federal interference. “The governor has clearly outlined the challenges this administration has faced as we’ve worked around the clock to purchase PPE for our health-care workers and first responders,” a spokesperson for the governor told the paper. “The supply chain has been likened to the Wild West, and once you have purchased supplies, ensuring they get to the state is another Herculean feat,” he continued

Re: Coronavirus
Even if you compare per capita stats between countries, it still isn't an accurate comparison measure. It's just too early. It will take another two months, at least, before things start evening out. And even then, those with a late start of infections, had an earlier start on mitigation compared to Italy or Spain. Sweden also isn't in the top 10 of annual international visitors in all of Europe. France, Spain and Italy are clearly the top 3.UNI88 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2020 8:27 pmI don't disagree John. Jelly threw out a graph in response to the one that SD posted that was an apples to oranges comparison and ignored the comments in the Berenson's tweet (Deaths per-capita have been far lower than the U.K., Italy, France, or Spain, just higher than other Nordic countries). Sweden looks worse compared to the other Nordic countries. They're also up and down day-to-day.JohnStOnge wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2020 4:58 pm
I think the Sweden situation is interesting. Bear in mind, though, that they are not just doing business as usual. They are just relying more on voluntary action.
Also, as noted, they are doing poorly in a relative sense as compared to their Nordic neighbors who imposed stricter controls.
Andorra is a country in Europe. It's a small principality between France and Spain.

So maybe think about that next time we all entering into a debate about strengthening the Federal government at the expense of the states

I guess I can chalk you up as one of the liberal morons who love the color and font of a meme and it sounds good, so must be good.
Is there a reason to take off a parachute kalm?
Is there a reason to open things back up?
My God you've changed the last four weeks.
You can regard me as you’d like.
Notice you provided no evidence. Trust me, I’m the biggest fan of this being overblown hysteria and that the best science has been completely wrong. I want to cast blue duns to rising rainbow trout and hit a quail high knockdown micro fade wedge to a back right pin placement on #16...right fucking now!
Meanwhile, my conservative friends have been mostly the ones losing there shit while the “liberal morons” have been more inclined to a thoughtful, measured response.
Funny, ain’t that?![]()

That is good to remember as it's really the lack of a vaccine that separates this from a regular flu season.

Jesus Christos... it was about a bad analogy kalm, not whether it was a good idea to stop all the measures we've taken. The meme suggests that it would be a terrible idea to even talk about it... taking off a parachute on a sky dive. The fact that you can't see that proves that you have lost the ability to think rationally about this topic.

So wife has been knee-deep in everything involved with PPE for all the A-B facilities. She bursted out in frustration about the Ft. Collins (CO) brewery.
Me: What happened now?
Her: They want more masks than we are providing all other facilities.
Me: Why.
Her: They are....
Me: Whiny pussies?
Her: (laughing) I knew you would say that. Let's just say that they think they are a more educated workforce than other places, when in fact they are the same. They just think they know more.
Me: So I nailed it.

Who’s implying you can’t talk about it?

It’s simply saying that flattening the curve does not mean it’s safe yet to let our guard down. The downward side of the curve is coming soon if we stick to our guns and that’s when restrictions will (slowly) be relaxed and then probably monitored for a few weeks to make sure there’s not a resurgence.
I even qualified my statement by acknowledging there’s room for argument and that I may be wrong.
Go to the corner!

Re: Coronavirus
TLDR (it all)
Waxing poetic. So many people reporting no symptoms to very mild symptoms.“[The disease] can attack almost anything in the body with devastating consequences,” says cardiologist Harlan Krumholz of Yale University and Yale-New Haven Hospital, who is leading multiple efforts to gather clinical data on COVID-19. “Its ferocity is breathtaking and humbling.”
Deaths 55+ = 11,961 out of 94,703,829 people
Deaths < 55 = 1,169 out of 232,463,605 people
If it were so aggressive, we'd see a LOT more deaths in folks < 55.
And so nobody gets bent out of shape, yes the numbers are behind.

Re: Coronavirus
^ I don't disagree, but what about the people dying who aren't being counted in the statistics.
We can't just say "(Counted Fatality) / (Counted Survivor + Uncounted Survivor)" = Mortality Rate".
The equation has to be:
"(Counted Fatality + Uncounted Fatality) / (Counted Survivor + Uncounted Survivor) = Mortality Rate".

Re: Coronavirus
I don't take being aggressive to mean it goes after everyone in with ferocity. I take it to mean that if you are one that gets it bad, it's very aggressive. Hearing interviews with people that have gone thru it, sounds like they feel like they are drowning as their lungs can no longer pass O2 into the blood stream to other organs. A slow painful death.89Hen wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 7:06 amTLDR (it all)

When you get those numbers, please pass them along. There are anecdotal stories of over-reporting deaths too.∞∞∞ wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 7:18 am ^ I don't disagree, but what about the people dying who aren't being counted in the statistics.
