I went to the site and saw that. I'll be lucky to drive 100 million miles in my life.

That's not the point. Its about a 1 in 5000 chance of dying per 18k miles driven.
If you wouldn't eat the cookies because 1 in 5,000 could kill you, then why would you drive you vehicle if you had a 1 in 5,000 chance of dying every 18,000 miles? Certainly you drive 18k miles if not every year, then once every few years..

Ok, for Minnesotians that would mean about a 1 in 5,000 chance of dying every 32k miles driven.Gil Dobie wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 1:44 pmEach person has a 1.13 chance in 100 million, except Minnesota is .063 chance per 100 million.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 1:30 pm

There is no fear, just common sense. The cookies have a poison for sure, the driving can be less risky if you don't drink, don't drive tired, drive a safe speed, keep your vehicle maintained, etc.

But what if the cookies also had an ingredient that decreased depression and helped maintain financial independence? It isn't a simple don't give them the cookies and you save lives decision. Lives are at risk either way. We actually don't know which choice will cost more lives at this point.

And the cookie's poison can be less risky if you social distance, wear a mask, wash your hands and obey other simple protocols. All while having the country remain open.
In fact, less risky almost to the point of being irrelevant.

You haven't go my point. You have a choice of whether you want a cookie or not. You have choice of how you treat the opening of businesses. I would test the cookies for poison before offering them to people. And as you know from reading all my post, that I am okay with cautiously opening America. Cautious as in testing cookies for poison before offering them to people. Making sure we will have enough hospital beds to treat the sick. Following the guidelines from the task force. We could end up in chaos if we open too fast and we could end up in chaos if we open too slow.UNI88 wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 2:42 pmBut what if the cookies also had an ingredient that decreased depression and helped maintain financial independence? I would rather test the cookies for poison and them pass them out. Each situation has a solution. I'm all for opening America up cautiously, all I hear from You and BDK and SD let her rip, pull the stitches out and open wild west style. This will end up with more government intervention.

Which parts have let the genie out of the bottle and which haven't?
“Take the New York metropolitan area’s progress against the coronavirus out of the equation and the numbers show the rest of the U.S. is moving in the wrong direction, with the known infection rate rising even as states move to lift their lockdowns, an Associated Press analysis found Tuesday.
New confirmed infections per day in the U.S. exceed 20,000, and deaths per day are well over 1,000, according to figures from Johns Hopkins University. And public health officials warn that the failure to flatten the curve and drive down the infection rate in places could lead to many more deaths — perhaps tens of thousands — as people are allowed to venture out and businesses reopen“..........
“ U.S. testing for the virus has been expanded, and that has probably contributed to the increasing rate of confirmed infections. But it doesn't explain the entire increase, said Dr. Zuo-Feng Zhang, a public health researcher at the University of California at Los Angeles.
“This increase is not because of testing. It’s a real increase,” he said.
Pockets of America far from New York City are seeing ominous trends.
Deaths in Iowa surged to a new daily high of 19 on Tuesday, and 730 workers at a single Tyson Foods pork plant tested positive. On Monday, Shawnee County, home to Topeka, Kansas, reported a doubling of cases from last week on the same day that business restrictions began to ease.
Gallup, New Mexico, is under a strict lockdown until Thursday because of an outbreak, with guarded roadblocks to prevent travel in and out of the city and a ban on more than two people in a vehicle. Authorities have deployed water tankers, hospital space is running short, and a high school gym is now a recuperation center with 60 oxygen-supplied beds.”

Really? Masks, sanitizer, social distancing while out, etc., etc. while business take steps necessary like providing sanitizer, heavier cleaning schedules, spacing of seating, etc., etc. Do I need to outline them for every business type?Skjellyfetti wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 6:40 pmWhat are "proper protocols"? -End of 'stay at home' and reopening most 'non essential' stores & businesses. Around 30 states are in the process of doing this for at least parts of their states from last week through next week.
-In public around others (esp indoors, stores, etc) continue with masks & physical distancing.
-Those who can work from home continue to do so as much as possible.
-Parks & beaches allowed to reopen.
-Restaurants, churches, theaters, gyms limited to 1/4-1/3 capacity for this month. Employees masks, frequent sanitizing, cleaning. Customers masks unless eating/drinking.
-Personal services resumed (like haircuts) but employees and customers mask up. Could do it by appointment only, or limit the # of customers inside.
-Hospitals & doc's offices resuming testing, treatments, elective surgeries, with the extra precautions.
-Every single worker in long term care facilities should either have to take the instant virus test (Abbott) or have temp's checked daily before entering facility.
-Pro sports with no fans initially. Then 1/4-1/3 capacity.

Re: Poll: Do You Support Re-Opening Most of America?
I don't think anyone is claiming open back up without protocols in place. At least I certainly ain't. When I say "time to open back up", I'm assuming common sense protocols (specifically masks and social distancing) are being implemented with that reopening.Gil Dobie wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 2:58 pmI would rather test the cookies for poison and them pass them out. Each situation has a solution. I'm all for opening America up cautiously, all I hear from You and BDK and SD let her rip, pull the stitches out and open wild west style. This will end up with more government intervention.

Sure you are. In fact, anyone advocating to stay locked down is essentially arguing to stay locked down until there are treatments/vaccine because literally nothing changes no matter the lock down duration until those two things are developed.Gil Dobie wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 7:13 pmIt's a comeback to you all that keep saying I want a total lockdown. Never said I wanted a total lock down until the virus was done.AZGrizFan wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 6:33 pm
WITH PROPER PROTOCOLS IN PLACE
Not sure what I need to do to get you to read that part of, oh, literally EVERY post I make about reopening. Nowhere, at no time, have I advocated for "letting her rip, pulling out the stitches" or "opening up wild west style".
Come on, Gil. You're better than this.
