Haaawhat?

Is the disease deadly?

Does the number of infected increase the number of deaths?
Yes. No.

AZ has been arguing for weeks that the number of infected has been undercounted. If the number of infected is higher than originally thought and the deaths haven't increased proportionally, that means that the virus while deadly isn't as deadly as originally feared.
But it still increases the number of deaths hence my volume comment.

SARS was a high end retailer with high margins of kill rate but it couldn’t create enough new customers to survive. 8100 cases vs. 3-4 trillion. Which is a bigger threat?

Not necessarily. If the number of infected is increasing due to the virus spreading then yes I would expect the number of deaths to increase. But if the number of infected is increasing due to greater testing then the number of deaths might not increase. Reality is somewhere in between but we don't know exactly where.

So there’s a chance that it’s completely stopped spreading?

Not likely but it's important to know if it isn't as deadly as we thought.

Which also suggests a rise in total deaths across all age groups and increases the chance of localized spikes (meat packing, vege production, prisons, care centers, schools) which can shut an entire state back down. People seem to not recognize that. Again, C19 appears to be a low margin, bulk retailer. Even at current infection rates it’s likely it will continue to be a roller coaster ride.
Nope. How can it suggest a rise in deaths? Are there piles of bodies out there not being counted? A rise in CASES <> a rise in deaths. Deaths are what they are.
Exactly. The bodies just aren't there to justify the continuation of the lock down in most places.

A buddy of mine is a teacher in SD. He texted me freaking out about how he and his family (wife and 2 young kids) can't take this anymore but it's something that needs to be done. I then pulled the SD County stats and asked him if he was ok with the idea of a county of 3.3M people being locked down because 169 deaths and 289 ICU cases have been caused by the Chinese Flu.

I got nothing but crickets from him. :dunce:

Looks like Elon Musk has had enough.

Elon Musk Says Tesla Suing California County, Moving Headquarters Out Of State
Tesla's CEO Elon Musk is once again voicing his dissatisfaction with shelter-in-place orders. This time, he says his company is seeking legal recourse and to relocate its corporate headquarters.

Musk tweeted Saturday that the electric auto-maker would "immediately" sue the California county that is home to its main manufacturing plant in the United States.

"The unelected & ignorant 'Interim Health Officer' of Alameda is acting contrary to the Governor, the President, our Constitutional freedoms & just plain common sense!" Musk wrote in a series of replies.

What I learned in kindergarten almost 50 years ago about basic hygiene...

1. Wash your face and hands with soap and warm water for 30 seconds. Make sure you wash the backs of your hands and between your fingers.
2. Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Promptly wash your hands (see #1).
3. If you are sick, stay home. If you have to go out while you are sick, wear a face covering.

Nothing new here. You may call it "safety protocol". I call it "basic hygiene".

Good luck with that in this country. How many people do you see leaving public restrooms without washing their hands? How many people sneeze or cough on you in public without covering their mouth? And face covers???......good luck with that one! Some people act like asking some people to wear a mask is like asking them to give you their guns! :ohno:

Being a karaoke enthusiast, I have witnessed many instances for years where these are not followed. I've also seen where the venues did not have any soap available. I do know the virus is real, but part of me thinks that the spread of the virus could be curtailed if we all follow what we learned in kindergarten. It starts to be less about prevention and more about power when more and more restrictions are put in place.

As for the face coverings, when I was sick and had to make a quick dash to the market for chicken soup and orange juice, I would put a face covering on. When I wasn't sick, I wouldn't. I would like to still be able to follow that rule without being told by the government that I am some sort of criminal for not wearing one.

FFS, 40 years ago people were building nuclear bunkers and getting under desks because of an existential threat. If the government rang a siren, everyone would go into hiding and be ok with it.

Today, we can't even put a mask on for a real threat.

The government is not forcing anyone to wear a mask in public where I'm at. Many stores are requiring it for entry. I'll wear one if I'm in a Post Office. I don't go in the stores, just go to curb-side pickup.

Some of them of course but not cowering. They’re not whining about it either.

Some are nurses, one of whom works the Covid Unit. Total badass who’s mindful but not afraid of shit. Also have a friend involved in several vaccine trials right now. Again, not afraid, just cautious and clinical.
