No. The US isn't even involved with talks are they?

Of course Putin wants something, but it sure looks like Biden is trying to really push his version of the story.
So we shouldn’t be in talks? You expect Biden to not be pushing his version of the story?

Corporate media pushing war notwithstanding.
We should be in talks, but aren't invited. I was looking for confirmation if this is normal. Germany and France are in the talks. Are we not involved because it's not our backyard or they simply don't want the US there?

My point being this sure seems like a Corn Pop version from Biden. Kind of how Trump would build something up as awesome when in reality is was mediocre.

Hasn’t Biden directly talked to Putin? The one criticism I can see here would be NATO not putting up a United front against Putin. If that’s in fact not happening or being attempted.

Western Europe’s energy needs should take a back seat to averting war.

Maybe it will just be a minor excursion. Like the Sudentenland in 1938..
They were invited! Punch and pie was served!

130k troops along the border.....you don't do that unless you're either invading. I wouldn't even say intimidating b/c the logistics for 130k people requires tremendous support and coordination.

And now Boris Johnson is planning some tour of Europe to avoid war...? Uh....doesn't this sounds like Munich 1938??

Oh..and have y'all seen the pictures of Ukrainian civilians undergoing weapons training!?
Maybe true, but that doesn’t stick out as a ginormous # to me, though. Maybe around half an Army. Maybe only 15k front line/combat arms (going by the assumption that in a 1st world army around 90% of personell are support/10% front line/combat arms.

Is invading Ukraine worth the headache for Putin?

Yeah - the largest part of an army is always the support staff. From what I've read, that's 130,000 out of 280,000 ground troops. Nearly 50% of their ground forces are on 1 border. :coffee:

How close is "on the border"? Thought I had read they were about 70 miles away. I'd consider that on the border, but I think most people perceive it as much closer.

So I heard on TV that Russia's top military brass and top soldiers are dealing with something going on in one of the 'stans (Kazakhstan). And Putin won't issue the order until they are there to participate.

I realize the first rule of fight club is not to discuss fight club, but when the Ukrainian President is mocking Biden to come to Ukraine and Lavrov says this:

I just find it interesting that no one (outside of neocons and warmongers) is buying the Ukraine story, or cares about this...

...because it has zero impact on the bigger issues at home (inflation/cost of groceries and gas).

Who is going to be correct? ZeroHeadge and their Russian propaganda, or AP with their "The officials briefed The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence sources."?

https://apnews.com/article/russia-ukrai ... 313a85edd9
U.S. intelligence officials on Tuesday accused a conservative financial news website with a significant American readership of amplifying Kremlin propaganda and alleged five media outlets targeting Ukrainians have taken direction from Russian spies.

The officials said Zero Hedge, which has 1.2 million Twitter followers, published articles created by Moscow-controlled media that were then shared by outlets and people unaware of their nexus to Russian intelligence. The officials did not say whether they thought Zero Hedge knew of any links to spy agencies and did not allege direct links between the website and Russia.

Zero Hedge denied the claims and said it tries to “publish a wide spectrum of views that cover both sides of a given story.”

The officials briefed The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence sources. It was the latest effort by President Joe Biden’s administration to release U.S. intelligence findings about Russian activity involving Ukraine as part of a concerted push to expose and influence the moves of Russian President Vladimir Putin. U.S. officials previously accused Putin of planning a “false-flag” operation to create a pretext for a new invasion of Ukraine and detailed what they believe are final-stage Russian preparations for an assault

Russians ridicule western media on ‘day of no invasion’

Officials and pundits mock forecasts that Russia would invade, as livestream of Kyiv shows light traffic

As 16 February – the day when some briefings had forecast Russia would invade Ukraine – came and passed without incident, pundits in Moscow lined up for their chance to dunk on the western media.

The Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, who enjoys prodding foreign media, wrote a “request to the mass disinformation outlets of the USA and Britain – Bloomberg, the New York Times, the Sun etc – announce the schedule of our ‘invasions’ for the coming year. I’d like to plan my vacation”.

Khrushchev backed off after the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Maybe calling Putin’s bluff with a show of resolve helped in the Ukraine standoff as well. The Russian trolls can cackle all they want, but the tanks have not yet rolled.

Was thinking that this morning. If Biden was seen as so weak...Putin wouldn't waste any more time with "diplomacy."

According to our news, Russia is adding 7K more troops and was lobbing mortar rounds across the border. Not sure if any of that is accurate.
