I saw that - they briefed social media influencers. I take it as an attempt to engage younger people on the issues like Ukraine. It really isn't any different than a president using Twitter to reach out to people.

I saw one of the ads. Other than being talking points, the influencer did a good job. A ton of her fans are going to buy the narrative.

Took me a whole year to get my daughter to stop considering TikTok as a news source.

Tik-Tok is good for wasting time. News not so much.

Same goes for Twitter. Putting ones eggs in the basket of Social Media may not pay off as much as they would like. I know more under 25 people who have cut social media out of their lives than are on it (not a representative example by any means but it is interesting considering the companies growth). There is also the breakdown of "conservative" vs. "liberal" users on a particular platform and their perceived trust in said platform. I think it was PEW that did a study on social media demographics of the above.

Personal thoughts are that Social Media is getting close to hitting its cap in users (talking U.S.). Also the thing about Social Media, especially in the younger users, is they show next to zero platform loyalty. They will hop off when the next "cool" platform comes along. Influences also fall as fast as they rise, which adds risk.

I haven’t read up on the end times. How is this war going to end?
Jesus wins.

But before that, Gog and Magog (Russia and China) run roughshod for a bit. Always wondered how those two would become intertwined, but we are seeing it in real time as the economic/social/cultural isolation will push Russia(ns) towards the Chicoms.
What’s your confidence level in this playing out?

And anyone just touting the "I just want to be left alone" has had their head in the sand the past decade or so.
We don’t have to get everybody to agree with us or our particular form of government

All we need to do is get our friends and adversaries to agree that when every citizen has skin in the game - whether that citizen is US or Russian or Kyrgyz or Thai or East Timorean…. that we all, us men on the street, always will tend toward peace and not being incinerated because some autocrat gets his panties in a wad.

It really isnt that much of a heavy lift. We just need to package it better and stop being distracted by squirrels

Yep. And social is being wielded as a highly effective (and often organic) weapon in this war.

I've never been on Tik Tok and i'm seriously trying to reduce my social media use. Honestly -i've been using youtube more lately to help with the construction projects we have going on. And I must say, there are some great resources on there. Same with car repair.

The prime minsters of Poland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic are en route to Kyiv. :suspicious: You can give your support w/o travelling to a war zone. I have no doubt that Putin will take this as a provocation.

Boy howdy yes!

With FB, I’ve eliminated most knuckleheads on my friends list and joined over 100 various groups from Photography of the Palouse to eastern Washington fly fishing to Steven Wright Jokes.

My news feed is mostly classic Porsche’s, English bulldog puppies, and Medieval Tudor Buildings.

It’s quite pleasant now.

YouTube is great. I really wish I had it growing up for projects we were working on. The home owner how-to videos have been very helpful lately as I am considering doing certain projects.

My socal media I really do not use in the traditional sense and I pretty much have cut it down to about 8 hours a month.

FB is for marketplace only (their new format sucks)
Instagram - Woodworking/Vehichle ideas
Snapchat - Keeping up with some work friends/family when I am on trips
Tik-Tok - machinery crashes or people being stupid

Mine is old tractors, pickups, Porsche's, BMW's, motorcycles, hot/rat rods, astronomy, odd fact pages, farming, ranching, historical, woodworking, photography, classical music and a few libertarian/free thinking groups.

I have always been picky on FB folks I add and it has paid off. Dropped the last yahoo's during the Trump years and it has been as quite as a church mouse ever since. Now if they would just fix their stupid interface and search/feed I probably would be on there more.

Heard that on NPR this morning and thought something similar. Plus they are going by train which struck me as a bit odd.

It’s super odd. An “accidental” fog of war type of event and this thing quickly escalates.

Perhaps an intentional provocation to test Putin?

Maybe. A train locks a person to an obvious route/time and when dealing with a war zone, one would think they would want flexibility. Then again this is a photo-op/publicity so it would give them a chance to talk to the press about a politicians favorite topic (themselves).

When trying to understand politician motivations, I start with selfishness/ego and then go from there.

It kind of makes sense - you don't want to fly due to air strikes and the potential downing of a plane being added the the mythical list of "war crimes" that Russia is accusing Ukraine of. A train seems to require more boots on the ground in terms of interference. :twocents:

Agree on the flying. Was thinking a motorcade would be more flexible as far as picking a route but then it is probably not the fastest.
