Lots of liberals have guns - its been a long time since I've seen somebody as out-of-touch as you on this site - and as the counter-example to Alec Baldwin we have none other than the newly incarcerated Elmer Stewart Rhodes who managed to put out his own eye with a gun, something that is not easy to do and live to tell about. This Bud Light is for you, Elmer Rhodes, in appreciation of you keeping an eye out for us.
By the way, I'm just dropping turds. I learned it from you!!

No they haven't, they both painted a partial picture of life in a small town. Maybe DougJBalloon needs to get out of Rochester NY and see America.
Why do people find Aldean's lyrics so offensive but give a pass to racist/violent/misogynistic rap/hip hop lyrics?

What Aldean sang isn't wrong. People in a small town aren't going to put up with carjacking an old lady, robbing a store, spitting on a cop or stomping on the flag, etc. While protesters opinions about social justice are valid, the opinions of people in small towns about respect and law & order is no less valid.
This appears to be more leftwing self-righteousness. It's part of their religion.

Lighten up Francis. It’s a more than fair critique. I love small towns and live in one. They also have there issues. If anything the most egregious part the critique misses is the satire in Mellencamp’s music. He saw the warts as well.UNI88 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2023 9:55 am

Didn't answer my question about why people are up in arms over Aldean's lyrics but kept their mouths shut for the last 20+ years of more offensive rap/hip hop lyrics.
Why does the supposedly liberal and open-minded left-wing get their undies in a bunch over people speaking out (or in this case singing) about different values? They're arrogant, self-righteous, elitist snobs.

Wasn’t Aldean the show at the Vegas shooting? It’s a little tone deaf to not make that connection. That’s a big part of why the left is up in arms about it. Less gun violence! No MORE gun violence!
Btw…CMT must be the illiberal left as they took the video down.
Jingoism, badassery, and fear of the outsider is not what I find endearing about small towns. Sorry.

It might be a tone deaf for Aldean but it will play well with his audience and he'll make some coin. IMO, the extreme left, like the extreme right, are a bunch of Karens looking for reasons to be angry. They're up in arms because someone gave them a reason and they skipped right past their own hypocrisy straight to outrage. I haven't watched the video but I don't think the lyrics are as bad as the left wing Karens are making them out to be.kalm wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2023 12:14 pmI’ll grant you hypocrisy regarding violent lyrics and I video imagery from other genres.UNI88 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2023 11:01 am

I don't find jingoism and fear of the outsider endearing either. I do find respect for elders, police officers, property, etc. endearing and they're part of what Aldean's song is about and lack of respect for them seems to be too common among left wingers.

I can strongly assure you that lack of respect for private property among just a big city thing. It’s of course more predominant in cities for obvious reasons.

Given a choice between letting people carjack an old lady, rob a liquor store, or spit in a cop's face get off easy or get the crap beat out of them, I'll take get the crap beat out of them. I'd prefer they were arrested, charged and tried but that doesn't seem to be an option in places like Portland. Aldean's warning to AnTiFa types isn't wrong. If they bring their bullsh!t to a lot of small towns they better hope they get arrested before the locals get ahold of them. I've said it before but while circumstances may explain someone's behavior they do not excuse it. There should be consequences for breaking the law, destroying property, harming others, etc.
Where did you first hear about the song? Was it a progressive/left wing site/news source? Did it plant the seed that the song was filled with jingoism and fear of the outsider so that's what you heard/saw when you listened/watched the video? I would guess that you had a bias against the song before you even heard it and that bias shaped your opinion and responses on this thread.
Too many people on both sides are getting their information from sources that are trying to shape their opinion not inform them. This song is a good example of that.

It was plastered all over Twitter. There was no seed needed to be planted. It’s a cheezey song reminding me of Toby Keith’s jingoistic stuff during the Iraq War. It’s meant to be a dog whistle. I’m just observing the social commentary. A flex by the right, the criticism of it by the left.
