I will always talk about empathy and kindness. They are virtues. I’m not worried in the least about someone using my own empathy against me. What a weird fear. And yes, I’ve been around the block enough times to recognize bad people. Many of the worst are “successful” professional types like lawyers, city officials, finance people, realtors, developers. Do you give bad people a pass because they’re “successful” and not on public assistance?

You're not wrong about the society being soft but kalm isn't wrong either. Sometimes shit happens (like a major health crisis) to people who work hard and make good choices and they're left destitute as a result. A strong social safety net isn't a bad thing. I don't think we need what Canada or Europe has but I know that what we currently have isn't working either (and Obamacare is better than what we previously had). If we had real leaders, they would be able to work together, compromise and brainstorm to find a solution that works for the United States of America.

You want Democrats to work with trump? I agree they should but only if trump can compromise and meet Democrats somewhere in the middle to find a solution. Capitulating to trump's demands isn't "working with" him.

I’m a fan of Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, and Bernie. Left wing populists/progressives who promoted a well regulated capitalism, fought against consolidation of power, enforced anti trust laws, and championed fair wages and workers rights.

Over the last century, the working class grew and thrived the most under FDR.

It is the reason that too many blacks are still falling behind economically and educationally and living in the inner cities because it created a dependency and “the lifestyle” and it basically started to proliferate in the early Sixties

Which generation did he destroy?

Welfare dependence has steadily gone down for 3 decades while worker productivity has risen. Yet the middle class (defined historically) shrinks and is no longer enough to provide for an affordable education, modest house, family vacations, retirement with dignity, or even healthcare. At least without going into crushing debt.

That’s directly related to Reaganomics/neoliberslism and people like Sowell and has been promoted by both party’s establishment.

Like I tried to point out before, I’m hip to all the issues welfare brings. Nobody wants it. But thank you for reminding me of what a hack Sowell has always been.
