Interesting. Do you consider living in poverty soft?

I will always talk about empathy and kindness. They are virtues. I’m not worried in the least about someone using my own empathy against me. What a weird fear. And yes, I’ve been around the block enough times to recognize bad people. Many of the worst are “successful” professional types like lawyers, city officials, finance people, realtors, developers. Do you give bad people a pass because they’re “successful” and not on public assistance?
Living in poverty should be a motivator

You live and have lived in a totally different environment than I have….

I was very naïve about the ways of the world when I left rural Sussex County but living in Miami, Puerto Rico and NYC have shown me there are a lot of advantage takers in this world and it’s not up to me to support every freaking one of them, especially the ones that are perfectly able to take care of themselves, but choose not to because the government encourage them not to…. For votes

Don’t confuse “successful” with being an elitist white collar snob How many times do I have to criticize these people before you stop making dumb comments and asking dumb questions
You spend almost as much time telling us how you pulled yourself up by your bootstraps as kalm does telling us how much empathy he has.

You're not wrong about the society being soft but kalm isn't wrong either. Sometimes shit happens (like a major health crisis) to people who work hard and make good choices and they're left destitute as a result. A strong social safety net isn't a bad thing. I don't think we need what Canada or Europe has but I know that what we currently have isn't working either (and Obamacare is better than what we previously had). If we had real leaders, they would be able to work together, compromise and brainstorm to find a solution that works for the United States of America.

You want Democrats to work with trump? I agree they should but only if trump can compromise and meet Democrats somewhere in the middle to find a solution. Capitulating to trump's demands isn't "working with" him.

You support them politically and buy into their economics. And my point is that “takers” in the elitist white collar class also exist. And they take more in dollars by a metric shit ton than the poor.

I do appreciate that you’ve experienced these different cultures.

Perhaps our common ground starts with raising the standard of living for the working class first?

Incorrect.

It would be true if I was a fan of corporatist Democrats like Obama, Pelosi, the Clinton’s. I’m not.

I’m a fan of Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, and Bernie. Left wing populists/progressives who promoted a well regulated capitalism, fought against consolidation of power, enforced anti trust laws, and championed fair wages and workers rights.

Over the last century, the working class grew and thrived the most under FDR.

Yes. I’m ignoring it as you’ve already made clear that you think that’s the main problem. It isn’t and ignores the bigger parts of this situation. It also is a tired old attack point. Reagan’s welfare queens come to mind.

But that’s ok. We can disagree here and I’m fine with that.

Did you really just use Ronald Reagan and “the lifestyle” in the same sentence

Ronald Reagan detested that mentality while clueless morons like Joey rotten Biden support it

I can see you’re having trouble with comprehension. Reagan and R’s since have blamed it on the welfare queen types. While some of that is deserved and can even become a generational problem it’s not the reason for our economic woes.

You’re probably the only person walking the Planet that associates Ronald Reagan with welfare Queens…

Once again, your instincts are very poor If you think I believe “the lifestyle” itself is the main problem.

But you knew that and we’re just testing me

No…it was pretty clear what you meant by lifestyle. I’m sorry you’re confused by my reply.

You might be the only person above the age of 30, commenting on politics that doesn’t associate Reagan with welfare queens. Even Google’s AI knows of it. There’s still time for you to find a library and improve your knowledge of history.

From Google. (You can find similar on wiki or a whole host of books and articles on Reagan.):
“The "welfare queen" concept, popularized by Ronald Reagan in the 1970s and 80s, describes a stereotype of a woman (often Black) fraudulently exploiting welfare for luxury, based loosely on Chicago con artist Linda Taylor, but exaggerated to imply widespread abuse. Reagan used this narrative in his campaigns to argue for cutting social programs, shifting focus from systemic poverty to individual moral failings and influencing public perception of welfare recipients as undeserving, though actual fraud was a small minority.”
