As for FCS dying or not? I’m 50/50 on it
Certainly a lot of the marquee programs have moved along. G5 kind of reminds me of an old 1AA super Conference. I hope they will have their own playoff system soon.
FCS is kind of in a weird place when you have dominant teams like South Dakota State and North Dakota State, who are really pretty close to top 25 FBS teams, just steamrolling the sub division year after decade after year…

Yep its NDSU, a couple of teams that blip up for a season or 2. Then everyone else is a very distant 4th and 5th place.

P5 doesn't guarantee having the cache or the willingness to fund every allowable scholarship. We'll certainly see that at places like U$C, Notre Dame, Alabama, Michigan, etc. But Vandy, Northwestern, and OR State? I highly doubt it. At THOSE places, we'll still see walk-ons, particularly preferred walk-ons.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 9:05 amDoes this mean no more walkons at P5?BDKJMU wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:16 am Now unlimited P5 schollies you’ve got to be kidding me. Vandy and NW are in the SEC & B1G0. They're getting buku dollars from those TV contracts and there will be expectations that they spend it.SuperHornet wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 5:47 pmP5 doesn't guarantee having the cache or the willingness to fund every allowable scholarship. Re: IS FCS FOOTBALL DYING?
WOW for all of DIV I..The gulf widens between P4 & everyone else. Alot of G5 and FCS aren’t going to be able to afford this. Huge increase in schollies + FCOA + NIL. Going to take a while for the dust to settle, but think going to see a lot of dropped programs (football and mens’ Olympic) by the end of the decade. Some womens’, but not as many due to Title IX…

Remember it like yesterday
NTC Orlando also served as the female Navy Boot Camp and if they were good they got Libo on Saturday night. The Mariners Club was on base and would be packed with female recruits ….

The economy was horrible in 1981 and I had been to the Coast Guard recruiter in March 1981 and was ready to go and waiting for his call all summer, but they warned me it was gonna take at least six months
In August out of nowhere, the Navy recruiter called and said I can send you to Boot Camp in two weeks and then to Orlando to the nuke school… you don’t need to wait for the Coast Guard son, you come down to see me
I hung up on him
Two weeks later, I was in Cape May, New Jersey for basic training

Re: IS FCS FOOTBALL DYING?
as far as realignment speculation goes
You take the majority of the SEC/Big 10 P1 and P2 teams sprinkled in with some ACC / Big 12 teams and form NFL light. Of course Notre Dame is included and start it out with a 48 team league with plans to expand upwards to say 64 teams over the years.
A certain criteria would be established to determine who gets to move into the NFL light level of what was previously known as college football. I can imagine that competition to get into the new NFL lite would be a vicious cage like fight.
What is left behind would be known as division one football.
It would include pretty much be all of what is known as G5 today with some P4 stragglers sprinkled in. Some G5 would be able to make it up to NFL light if they meet certain conditions and de facto NFL teams could fall back to division one football if they don’t cut it. This would make it a fluid process and give Hope.
In order to increase the amount of teams in the newly designated division one football league, FCS teams would be given an opportunity to join if they met a certain criteria. They would be slotted up To D1 in rhythm with teams sloting up to the new and improved mini NFL.
Eventually, you bring the new DIv 1 up to about 100 or so teams with additions from FCS. Of course the new D1 would need a playoff system of their own and the earlier rounds of these playoffs could be Bowl games just like they are now
