Eight years ago today America was attacked, and while a significant amount of damage from that attack occured on New York City it wasn't New York City that was attacked, America was attacked.
President Barack Obama stated that every year on this day we are all New Yorkers...
Every day of every year we are all Americans. Americans were attacked that day, not just New Yorkers.
Brave Americans aboard United Airlines Flight 93 after learning from loved ones over cell phones that planes were being crashed into buildings, stormed the cockpit of their hijacked flight to ensure others on the ground wouldn't be harmed. The brave people were Americans, not New Yorkers.
The heart of the American Armed Forces also suffered a deadly attack that day when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon, 184 people from the plane and ground died, these people were not New Yorkers, they were Americans.
Today like every other day I am proud to be an American, I feel pain for our country on this day, not just for New York.
