Man, look at the absence of homes on Rich Mtn. (and on Howard's Knob in the other pic). That's beautiful...what an awesome view they had at the old stadium location. And, endzone seating.Mountaineer wrote:

Yup, it's a travesty that the town allowed development on the slopes of Rich Mountain and the Knob. I'd be all for declaring eminent domain and removing the eyesores towering above the town.ASUMountaineer wrote:

The big buildings in the background of each of those pics are still there. They're the two oldest buildings on campus.Mountaineer wrote:

Chapell-Wilson and Smith-Wright Halls. I believe Smith-Wright was once a high school. I know Whitener Hall was the old elementary school before it was torn down. My mom went there.T-Dog wrote:

I didn't know that, when were they built? I thought the old part of Newland Hall (I lived there junior year) was the oldest. It was built in 1903. I love Chapell-Wilson, what a beautiful building.T-Dog wrote:The big buildings in the background of each of those pics are still there. They're the two oldest buildings on campus.Mountaineer wrote:

I love how every player is looking off into different directions. So stoic!
94 on the far left looks like he's trying to eye fuck one of his buddies in the front row.

1887 UMass (fka Massachusetts Agricultural College). Envy our stylish stocking caps:
1901 UMass: Still the height of football fashion. Ready to steal your McDonalds cheeseburger.
1907 UMass. First black head coach at a predominantly white university (this was Bullock's third year).
UMass running the sweep left at their first football field, near the Old Chapel (circa 1908).
UMass still running the sweep left at its second stadium, near the current Admin Building (circa 1954).
UMass today at its third and current stadium. They never expected us to run right.

Re: Historical Photos
Perhaps not historical, but definitely a memorable image from 2005: I found this slideshow of the play where MSU QB Travis Lulay got sandwiched between 2 defenders and lost his helmet. EWU went on to win 35-15 and hold off UC-Davis the next week to reach 7 D-I wins, and MSU took down the Griz in Bozeman to make a 3 way tie at the top, giving EWU the Autobid into the playoffs. Amazing photo!

UMass football goes back a ways...
Here's the squad from 1888
Looks like 1901 was a good year...every game a shutout except one...
We packed the stands back in the day...this is circa 1905 or so...
Some game action from 1922...
