Two beefs with this: how the cr@p is undefeated UOP not in the main poll? They should be in the Top 10. And how the cr@p is a team that beat B(C)$ Oregon State not getting a SINGLE vote?!?

People aren't paying attention to cr@p out west again....

I'm pretty sure that it's okay to say crap on this site.

Also, Oregon St. sucks, I wouldn't use them as the highlight of a resume. They are 1-3 with losses to Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Sacramento St. and Texas Tech. Their only win is against South Dakota.

BlueHen: Corpus Christi isn't too far removed from a dance ticket. They can't be THAT bad.

Venus: Sac already has three wins and looks well on their way to a fourth today. Last year's 2-27 is MEANINGLESS.

But Oregon St is, and that is the point. If you are 3-3, and your best win is Oregon St, you shouldn't expect to be ranked.

No, apparently not.
. Last year's 2-27 is MEANINGLESS.
How is it meaningless in this discussion? My point was that pollsters don't rank teams that won just two games the previous year based on one win over a weak major. It was definitely a good win for Sac, but hardly a great win in the national context.

I will say, however, that the pollsters are jumping on the NoCo bandwagon a little early. The Bears are 6-0, but have only beaten one team that isn't terrible (Texas Southern).

Well, I must say, Venus, you are the only one so far to give us ANY shred of credit for that win, so I guess I'll have to take it for now. I have no pretensions of making the NCAAs (that belongs to MSU this year), but I do believe that Sac will be MUCH improved, despite what those ECBers maintain (they think ANYONE in the Pac-10 is weak).

As for that Riverside game, well, at the time I posted, it looked like Sac had a pretty good shot at it. How they played the game they did and then failed to cover a tip-in play beats me. :-(

Many at SacBuzz were all over Katz last year though he was trying to make do with what was left over from the previous incompetent regime. He's starting to get results now that his own are taking over. World beaters? Not this year. But certainly a whole lot better than in the past.

Watch out for the WCC. It's not just Gonzaga this year as Saint Mary's looks strong again at 4-1. San Diego looks pretty good at 4-2 and Portland is off to a fast start at 5-0.

Sac is no doubt improved, but that's still a far cry from receiving votes in the mid-major top-25.

College insider can kiss my ass. Illinois State, or any other MVC mens basketball program is not a fucking "mid major", whatever that means. It's a term invented by the BCS conferences to further draw a line. If you buy into it, only serves to deepen the divide.

Agreed. A lot of people actually put the MVC into a High Major Category. This is usually what I see

BCS
ACC
Big 12
Big East
Big Ten
Pac-10
SEC

High-Major
Atlantic 10
Conference USA
MVC
MWC
WAC

Mid-Major
Big West
Colonial
Horizon
MAC
MAAC
Southern
Sun Belt
WCC

I'm assuming if your conference didn't make that list they would be a Low-Major

We made a small gain this year with ESPN. They are no longer including the MVC or the MWC in their mid-major poll. Stands to reason, they bought the broadcast rights to the MVC-MWC challenge, and ESPN would never want to admit to contractualy jumping into bed with mid-major conferences.

ISU is @ Utah on Dec 19th as part of the MVC/MWC challenge. Rumor is the game will be on the Deuce. Our home game vs Niagra on Dec 13th should also be on the deuce.

Once again, this is hogwash. If you go by individual teams, the classification can change. This is particularly true for the "mid-major" conferences, where the top teams can actually be high-major (read: Gonzaga) and the lesser teams (read: San Fran) could actually be considered low-major. Of course, the B(C)$ and the A-10 won't allow that subclassification for THEIR schools and get away with it because they control the $$. An argument could be made that MVC/MWC/WAC/C-USA are actually mid-major, but that's beside the point. The top members of each conference (UOP, SW MO St, Utah, etc.) would be seen by TRUE fans as better than the bottom half of even B(C)$ conferences and on some days better than the top B(C)$ teams.

But I WILL agree with OSBF that the entire classification scheme exists to keep the B(C)$ and (to a lesser extent) the A-10 in the $$. Perhaps we should investigate the idea of returning from FBS/FCS to I-A/I-AA and extending the designation to hoops. It might be going a bit far to extend it to baseball given the success of the Big West in that sport, but at least a separate tournament for I-AA hoops would generate SOME revenue (even if not the bonanza of the I-A tournament) and these schools would get SOME recognition vice the vast attitude of ignoring them that pervades the bogus media.

Lost in the hype of the Oregon-Oregon State football game and also lost here is the fact that U of Portland was ranked #25 in the last AP poll. I say happily that U of Portland WAS ranked. Also lost in the hoopla is that Portland State knocked off Portland and their ranking 86-82 last night. PSU has now won the last five meetings with the Pilots.
