Re: THE GRIZ REIGN IS OFFICIALLY OVER!
Okay I'll give it a shot.
New coach who hasn't been a head coach at this level. Will he try to change the offense to a more wide open style of offense? Does the have the players to run the system he wants to run? If he is going to change the offense to a different system than what Hauck recruited for, will it take a couple of months or weeks to get it together? If you get the griz early in the season, I think you have the better chance of beating them.
This however doesn't mean the "reign" is officially over. Just a one year bump in the road. MSU, EWU and Weber need to become more consistant year in and year out and beat them more than once every 4 or 5 years.

1. If the old coach (BH) left and got promoted to a higher level & the new coach step up from a lower level to this (fcs head coach) level. We can safely assume the old coach is better than the new coach.
2. Its very likely that the Griz will have a 'down' year bc of the Head Coach change. Fact.

Point is... you can make an educated guess about Montana's fate next year. And the most educated guess is that they wont win the conf in 2010. Check my Sig.

SO by using results from 4 years ago when none of the players that played then are on current teams you are basing your argument? ummmmm......yeah....BlackFalkin wrote:1997 Eastern Washington

2005 Montana St, E. Washington, Montana
So like I said, the 2 teams with the best shot at takin over in 2010 are EWU & MSU.

Re: THE GRIZ REIGN IS OFFICIALLY OVER!
I said that our most likely losses were gonna be Cal Poly, EWU, and then Montana State. The first two are road games with a new coach in the first few games of the season and it is in that kind of an environment that a new coach can make a couple of mistakes and lose a close game. If you are getting the Griz in the latter 1/2 of the season I don't feature your chances nearly as high as the early games but I think Montana State is a very rugged bunch of individuals with a lot of heart and they will give us a real game if not take us out.canyoncat wrote:Okay I'll give it a shot.

The offense will be changing a little but the talent that is there now is the same kind of talent that I'm pretty sure Pflugrad would have taken if he had been in that position a couple of years ago.

Re: THE GRIZ REIGN IS OFFICIALLY OVER!
Most educated guesses come with historical backing. Montana's history is dominating and there is not a single reason to believe they will miss a step in 2010. The last time Montana did not win the BSC was four HC's ago. Pflugrad has assembled an outstanding staff and excellent first recruiting class. Montana will be better than ever.
11 consecutive BSC titles
17 straight appearances in the playoffs
Solid returning core, including Chase Reynolds and experienced depth at QB
With that on your side, the monkey is on the back of the detractor to show otherwise; I've read nothing of credibility. So EWU is historically second best in the BSC over the last several years. That does not mean they are even close to Montana. So MSU is getting better; they were still dominated in Bozeman last year by Montana.
EWU has won but 3 of the last 17 games vs. Montana.
MSU has won but 3 of the last 24 games vs. Montana.
This thread isn't even smack; it's wishful thinking.

Re: THE GRIZ REIGN IS OFFICIALLY OVER!
How about these facts:
1 - Chase Reynolds is back.
2 - Andrew Selle is back.
3 - Pflugrad restocked the O-line.
4 - Breske (from the Joe Glenn staff) is back as DC and will NOT run the vanilla scheme that Paulson loved so much.
5 - Bobby Hauck is not God (despite what he may think ).
6 - The Griz have had 4 head coaches (not counting Pflugrad, who is number five) since the current streak began. The streak still exists.
7 - To say that MSU should beat the Griz in Missoula is ridiculous. In Bozeman, maybe, but in Missoula, no. The 2010 game is in Missoula.
Will there be a transition period? Yeah, it's called the Western St. game. So maybe they'll win it by 30 instead of 60. Keep in mind that the very first game of the Joe Glenn era was a 10-9 loss at home to Hofstra.
Don't worry, things will work out for the Griz. They always do .

Re: THE GRIZ REIGN IS OFFICIALLY OVER!
I’ve been reading this board for a long time, and in general tend to stay away from discussions like this. But, I’ve definitely bit on this one. The only facts pertinent to your argument are: (1) Bobby Hauck no longer coaches at Montana, and (2) Robin Pflugrad is now the head coach. Everything after that is pure speculation. Could Montana suffer next year because of this? Sure, it could happen. But it is certainly not a fact. There have been two other coaching changes during Montana’s current conference streak, and neither prevented Montana from at least sharing the conference title. And while Bobby Hauck’s first year was not as successful as the previous year, the same cannot be said for Joe Glenn’s first year.
Your discussion also fails to factor in returning players, or mention the fact that Pflugrad is not new to the team. He is a first time head coach, but we are not exactly dealing with a guy lacking in experience, or familiarity with Montana. Plus, he’s got a staff that is extremely understanding of the system at Montana.

No, you don't. Marc Mariani was a once in a lifetime player for a team - a true game changer. You may have guys that are good, but they are not Mariani. All you bandwagon griz fans need to realize a few things
1. That new coach is gonna drop the ball the first year (like most new coaches do)
2. Taiwan Jones is the real deal.
3. Montana State is much better than you think.
4. Weber State really won the Big Sky in '08
5. That red turf is gonna change things in Cheney.
6. The Griz Reign is Officially over.

1. The difference between first year coaches dropping the ball at other school, and new Griz coaches dropping the ball means that we have a good chance to go 8-3, rather than 11-0.BlackFalkin wrote:All you bandwagon griz fans need to realize a few things

2. Being the #2 RB in the Big Sky is nice, I guess.
3. You're right, they are pretty darn good. But we have them in Missoula this year, and unless we lay an egg, I don't see another BSC team beating us. Not saying that I guarantee we'll go 8-0 again, but I don't think the Pflugrad change will be for the worse.
4. lol, no.
5. Yes, your school has already turned into a laughing stock.
6. We had a much bigger chance of losing our reign in 2008, and you see how that ended up.
If any team knocks us off this year, it will be MSU. It WON'T be EWU.

Marc Mariani is a special sort of player of that there is no doubt. Joe Douglass, Mike Trevathan, Marvin Turk, Matt Well, Jimmy Farris,& Scott Gurnsey were all guys that had an impact on our team the same way Mariani has had. They all had different skill sets but brought the same kind of production that Mariani did.
You can dream about whatever you want to as far as what the Griz would or would not have done without Mariani last year but I for one would not have wanted to find out and we didn't have to BECAUSE WE DID HAVE HIM so wtf is your point? We beat you, I know it suck, but Mariani was a part of that.
We seem to have what you term "once in a lifetime" players on a pretty regular basis.
Sambrano may be that next "once in a lifetimer" that you can talk about in a few years.
We would have won all the games we did, we just would have done it in a different fashion.

Thanks for the cute youtube video, that was a nice, yet ineffective touch. 6. Just because you use the word "official" doesn't mean it has happened yet, or that it is true.

I would BF but I didn't dispute the Nova game at all because that is a great deal of the reason we lost that one so I didn't put myself in line for any humble pie there. I disputed the other points that were inaccurate. At the end there you'll see that I said "We would have won all the games we did, we just would have done it in a different fashion." If there is some confusion there I meant "we did" as in all the games that we did win. The Nova game fall outside of that statement obviously.BlackFalkin wrote:Ursus A. Horribilis wrote: Ok Jon. Re: THE GRIZ REIGN IS OFFICIALLY OVER!
Taiwan Jones is a very good, very fast back. Yet the fact remains that, when the chips were down last year, he flat dropped a simple fourth down screen pass that would have kept EWU's fading hopes alive, thus putting a dagger in the Eagles. He may be 'the real deal', but I'll take Chase, thanks. He flat knows how to win, and often puts his team on his back to get there.SeriousKev wrote:Thanks for the cute youtube video, that was a nice, yet ineffective touch.
