One obvious point is pretty easy to understand. The federal government can kill people and keep the peace more effectively than private corporations, but little else that they touch becomes more useful, effective or efficient.
I wouldn't give them that much credit....that's why they hire Blackwater....they may kill people or keep the peace in a more responsible manner, but not a more effective manner if left to the devices of private industry...

Affordable education increases productivity and benefits private industry immensley. An educated workforce benefits the overall economy, for-profit education lending only benefits the financial sector.

Totally agree with 89 on this one. Oil money is a fallacy.

The real reason for starting the Iraq War was government contract money.

No, no, you must mistaken....I saw the VP and the SECDEF both on national TV say that we could do this on the cheap and it would all be paid for by Iraq's oil.

I got to be there today when employees of a student loan gaurantee foundation were told they were about to be out of a job. Now the school is the gaurantor and it all falls on their shoulders...yeah I work in financial aid...and yeah life is about to get really bad for colleges and universities. :ohno: We already audit over 50% of our students for Uncle Sam, now we have to process their loans for Uncle Sam....and I'm not a federal employee after performing those TWO jobs?

Not at all, alan, I'm pissed off that we didn't go for Venezuela's oil and keep travel costs down. This would have been over years ago if W would have listened to me and kept the invasions local.

I would have rather taken their oil profits than keep the funding off the books and let future generations worry about it.

Well, let me put it in a manner that even simpletons like YOU can understand: Banks employ a FUCK of a lot of people. Obama never misses an opportunity to shit on the banking sector. NEVER. He did it again with this action. How many times can you go to that well before people start losing jobs because of it? He's taken away a significant portion of many, many financial institions' balance sheets with the stroke of a pen, while at the same time creating yet ANOTHER large, red-tape machine to keep the government coffers full. He's perpetuating the very problem (unemployment) he allegedly is attempting to solve!

And you SUPPORT that??? :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

That's not neccessarily good sign. Perhaps more bankers should roll up their sleeves and start manufacturing something of value.

Yeah, like most government workers do.
It's not the role of government workers to manufacture things. That would indeed be socialism. Their role is to be a gigantic pain in the ass to people like me trying to run a business.

Still, banks representing a significant portion of the workforce and GDP ain't a good sign.

Laudable goal indeed. But what makes you think that Obama and his team, who have never created economic value, private sector jobs, or wealth, can execute a pie-in-the-sky plan to do so?

Anyone ever think that maybe the sharp increase in college tuition (439% increase since 1985) might be correlated to a greater amount of federal aid & gov't-backed loans made available to a larger cross-section of applicants during same time period? I couldn't find the data for the loans...anybody know the figures?
