Its always a good idea to drill for oil, anytime anywhere.

The goodness of the idea goes up exponentially when its in North America. Puts Americans to work, brings new money INTO our country instead of it going OUT to middle eastern fronts for terrorism. (OPEC)

If it does a little damage its a small price to pay for our way of life and we can fix it later. We have enough oil underneath North America we may as well use it since we have more than anywhere else.

You guys go on believing the we are running out BS but please dont induce anymore idiocy into this thread Hussein Obama has already done enough of that.

Escalating the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
Drilling for oil and backing off his alternative energy BS
Fu*k I dont have time to list all the things hes stuffing in the lefts ass.

One thing it won't do is lower the price of gas at the pump. The bottleneck is the refinery, not the supply of crude. :nod:

Yep.

And I'm going out on a limb....careful, this runs counter to all of my Liberterian leanings....our government should take some decommisioned military bases & use the land to construct & run a refinery or two... :shock: ...yes, I said it....

As Houndawg stated, the bottleneck in our oil supply is refining capability. And oil (& it's availability), being as vital as it is to our economy & national interests, should be nationalized like our military....

fire away....

Fu*k we agree on something. I was hoping someday you would elevate your game. :thumb:

Totally agree and its an even better scenario.

If we build some more refineries more people are working to build and operate them and once agin it KEEPS MONEY here in the US. I may even be swayed into Appas idea of using decomissioned military bases/land to house refineries.

Let's build them where nobody lives, like Montana. That way only a few people would be inconvenienced by the pollution, odor, and any potential accidents. :thumb:

There won't be any refineries built. If you're the oil industry why would you want to increase supply and reduce demand (and pump price) when you're making record profits with the status quo?

You need to start thinking forward, past oil.

Agreed. Gas prices are going to go up a good bit this summer and Obama wants to minimize the damage that will do to the donks in November. I want to drill, but there are better places.

Its the enviros and donks who've in the past blocked oil refinery expansion:

From 2005:
(House):
Refinery Bill Passes Amid Partisan Split

but alas:
Senate Committee Rejects Republican Refinery Bill
http://www.ens-newswire.com/ens/oct2005 ... -26-10.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

From 2008:
Environmental Group Sues to Block Oil Refinery Expansion
http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/a ... rcID=32183" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Then you have the ridiculous amount of boutique fuels that slows down the refining process and drives up price. This is from an 06' EPA report on boutique fuels:

If one drop of oil or 1 cubic foot of natural gas comes from this decision then I say kudos to Obama but I doubt if we will see either.

...A National Petroleum Council study released last week reports that 40 billion barrels of America's "recoverable oil reserves are off limits or are subject to significant lease restrictions"...
http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnist ... =110010391" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The US, the 3rd largest oil producing country in the world behind Russia and Saudi, consumes about 19.5 billion barrels a day as of 08'. Import about 57% percent of that, 11.1 million barrells a day (also export about 1.8 million barrels of that heavy crude- we need the light sweet sh*t).
http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/energyexplaine ... _home#tab2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But only import about 18% of that (about 2 million barrels a day) from the Persian Gulf nations.
http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/energyexplaine ... il_imports" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just think, if we opened up access to that est 40 billion barrels that are off limits, that would be 50 years worth of what the US currently imports from the Mid East....
