I've said this before...we lack total leadership on this subject...

Someone needs to pull a JFK....issue a challenge like Kennedy did about reaching the moon "by the end of the decade"...
Obama would display the same "leadership" he showed after the election when he codified his "policies":

Contact representatives from all the special interests with leftist causes he supports, and ask them to "sign off" on an omnibus proposal. In this case, I'd wager a permanent ban, or minimally, a 10-15 year permitting process, would be included. In the end, the only "benefit" from his response would be in the form of increased political contributions for the next couple of years from both sides fighting to reverse/preserve the policy (Don't forget poli rule #1...Never waste a good crisis.).

BTW...by the time the govt. "organized" a response, BP will have this well capped, paid a few billion, and have reallocated their development R&D to another country for a couple of years. Oil is global; Obama is a pimple on Big Oil's ass; pimples go away.

The last 18 months is what you get when you don't have gridlock. Massive, uncontrollable, runaway spending and the acceleration of the demise of our Republic.

True gridlock wouldn't have allowed healthcare, stimulus or bailouts to pass. :coffee:

A sad lack of forward thinking in our so-called leaders. :ohno:

The Earth absorbs more solar energy in an hour than the planet uses in a year. It's producing for a few billion more years and it's delivered right to our doorstep for free. It won't happen overnight, we're at the Model T stage, but neither did going to the moon 40 years ago. That is the challenge Obama should be issuing - an energy independent US within the next two decades - and should be funding at the research universities. Of course, it would already be happening if we could run a sunbeam through a meter.... :coffee:

Solar is the answer long term, everything else is a short-term transitional fix.
You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by c squared. Then you energy.

And therein lies the problem....they can't "tax" it, bottle it, or sell it. So, its of no use to them. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

As vital as it is to our national security, you'd think we'd nationalize it. :coffee:

I have some insider information I received over the weekend; my fiancee's family flew in for a family party. Her cousins husband is an engineer for Transocean and is currently in the Gulf. Supposedly, they knew all along that the top kill would not work and they haven been moving a new rig between their rig and the current leak. They are going to start drilling to release the pressure of the leak and then try to clog it. The problem is they have already been drilling down for 2 weeks and it will probably take another 2 months before they will see any difference. So basically the approach is keep looking like you are doing something while they are getting down to the field and hopefully it slows it down because until they can extract the oil there will be no way to really clog it.
