Huh? Final estimates on the '91 spill were 2 to 4 million barrels.

This spill is already at 4 million barrels and growing with no successful solution to date.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Louisiana is a comparatively lifeless desert.

Anyone trying to say the gulf is fucked for YEARS is a moron because there is nothing to compare this too. The closest thing is the Valdez but I believe that was a different type of oil, in a different climate, and different quantities.

The pure quantity may be enough to have negative effects for a couple years, but if the ecosystem has the same resiliency as it did in Alaska the long term effects may be shorter than longer.
Not so fast, Clenzy:

http://www.wftv.com/news/24186752/detail.html
Twenty-one years after the Exxon Valdez, some animal species have never recovered.
at least six species of fish and birds have still not recovered from the damage done by the Exxon Valdez oil spill
But it wasn't until four years later the true toll started to reveal itself. A lucrative catch for the fishing industry, pacific herring, largely disappeared. Birds that ate the fish, of course, suffered, and studies and experiments revealed that insects and worms retained contaminants that poisoned any bird that ate them.

“I don't think people understood the magnitude of the spill when it first happened and the long-term effects of the spill,” bird ecologist Mary Anne Bishop said.
There is still no herring fishing allowed in Prince William Sound. They had their first shrimp fishing allowed this year after 19 years of closure.

If Alaska is still dealing with its disaster two decades later, it could be even worse for the Gulf Coast; the disaster there is so much bigger and widespread.

At an estimated 190 million gallons so far, the Gulf disaster is more than 17 times the size of the Exxon Valdez and it's affecting five states instead of just one region of one state.

Clenz, you're paying the price for being a dumb conk. No matter how good (Iraq War) something looks (Sarah Palin), it always (deregulation/corruption) is gonna come back (gulf disaster) to bite you in the ass (GWB), usually in (9/11) spectacular (economy in shambles) fashion.

Wake up dumb ass. :ohno:

Don't know where you got that estimate, but other estimates have it at around 5 million barrels. And the Persian Gulf does have an ecosystem that did recover from the spill.

Does it really matter who it was directed at? He asked for a link backing up my statement, and I gave him one.

You linked it? Really, all I saw was a quote. I'm not doubting your quote is from a thread, but I didn't see a link.

For instance I could say "You said this" and you would go "Show me a link" I could go, I don't have the link but here is a your quote and it could read

Grizalltheway wrote:People from Tuvalu are what is wrong with the world. If we got rid of all of the Tualuens the world would be a better place

Now, I have proof you said that, other than a quote that I made up...but others don't know I made it up, as i didn't actually provide a link.
