The thing is, it is quite possible to make a reasonable judgement about what Jesus would say about homosexual marriage. If he was a real historical figure of nature generally presented by the Gospels living in the culture of the time, it is EXTREMELY unlikely that he would've favored the idea of homosexual marriage. You don't even have to be a Christian to realize that.

The persona of Jesus was not that of an "anything goes" philosophy. He reportedly talked about forgiveness. Like the well known story of saving the woman from being stoned. But he also reportedly told her "sin no more." The fact that he didn't want her stoned didn't mean he sanctioned the behavior that put her at risk of it.

Not really. For instance, there is no way anyone can pick anything Jesus says to infer that Jesus thought drinking alcohol is wrong. In fact there are some pretty good indications that Jesus himself drank. Mathew 11:19 by the New International version 2007 reads:

"The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard.'

There are other translations that use "winebibber" instead of "drunkard." But it's pretty clear that if the Gospel accounts are to be believed that Jesus drank. What really gets me is people who try to claim that he drank "nonalcoholic" wine.

So, no, it's not really possible to use the Bible to claim that Jesus thought anything one would've wanted him to think.
