Incest can harm another individual.

Gay marriage doesn't harm anyone.

Government, douchebag preachers and douchebags in general should stay out.
Using that logic you could say the same thing about polygamy.

If you're eliminating the gay marriage clause, you should have to eliminate a lot of other clauses as well. All bolded above are moral decisions and have nothing to do with genetic problems. :geek:

FWIW, Argentina just legalized gay marriages today. Argentina is 92% Christian and 1% Atheist.

I'm still not sure why the US, a land built on "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" can't get this done already.

True... It has nothing to do with Jesus
It's got everything to do with people pretending they know what Jesus wants - two very different things

That may be true. But the caveat is that, if someone is a sincere Christian, what THEY want is based on a sincere belief about what Jesus wants. The two things are inseparable.

The thing is, it is quite possible to make a reasonable judgement about what Jesus would say about homosexual marriage. If he was a real historical figure of nature generally presented by the Gospels living in the culture of the time, it is EXTREMELY unlikely that he would've favored the idea of homosexual marriage. You don't even have to be a Christian to realize that.

The persona of Jesus was not that of an "anything goes" philosophy. He reportedly talked about forgiveness. Like the well known story of saving the woman from being stoned. But he also reportedly told her "sin no more." The fact that he didn't want her stoned didn't mean he sanctioned the behavior that put her at risk of it.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

John it's a fun game - we get it

Not really. For instance, there is no way anyone can pick anything Jesus says to infer that Jesus thought drinking alcohol is wrong. In fact there are some pretty good indications that Jesus himself drank. Mathew 11:19 by the New International version 2007 reads:

"The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard.'

There are other translations that use "winebibber" instead of "drunkard." But it's pretty clear that if the Gospel accounts are to be believed that Jesus drank. What really gets me is people who try to claim that he drank "nonalcoholic" wine.

So, no, it's not really possible to use the Bible to claim that Jesus thought anything one would've wanted him to think.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

I'm guessing Jesus was pro-slavery too, since there was plenty of slavery at the time.
