Military recording record number of Suicides
Yikes...
You can't "blame the Army" for this
The mounting stress on an Army facing renewed deployments and combat in Afghanistan is also a factor, Rudd said. "That's not a challenge they (Army leaders) control. It's a challenge that the president and Congress controls," he said.

Re: Military recording record number of Suicides
Not trying to take anything away from this problem, as it is definitely something that urgently needs addressed by those in command....
but I have to wonder if the "record number" might partially be due to such things not being kept track of as closely in the past. War can have a terrible effect on the psyche of those involved in it, and I have to believe that soldiers in the past had these same struggles that those of today are facing. (though perhaps not as much continual redeployment and the like and forced "stop loss" reenlistments)

It ain't because of the fighting, neither. Each of 'em is staring down the barrel of a pregnant 400 lb, four-pack-a-day, '99 Dodge Neon drivin', greasy-haired-showers-once-a-week spouse and four dirty children, two of whom are likely not his, when he gets back. House is in foreclosure, there's no air conditioning, fat wife is banging a "pack" of black guys, the kids have rickets and Reyes, lawn ain''t been mowed since he returned to Afghanistan last September, cat shit is piled four feet high in the litter box, he's stationed in fvcking Bugtussle, Georgia, an', to top it all off, there's a black president.
I'd shoot myself, too.

POST OF THE YEAR candidate..!!!!...
Our military personnel do indeed face many unnecessary problems and stresses. The color of the President is not one of them.
Unnecessary problems include a Commander in Chief who expends so much energy coddling the enemy and is afraid of naming the enemy. Another problem is a set of rules of engagement that favors the lives of enemy combatants over the lives of soldiers.

I was posting this thread as a serious concern...

Bravo for posting this thread as a serious concern. I responded with a serious post about Color, strategy and ROE, and I await your serious response.Chizzang wrote:native wrote:

Cap, as usual, went too far, even for you. Your celebration of cap's post was a grevious error. Admit it and move on. No kisses for you until you do so.

Oh and your "serious reply" I thought was pretty funny too...
A commander and chief who coddles the enemy - please show one valid example of that
The enemy is apparently just about everybody in Iraq - what shall we call them..?
Rules of engagement that favor the enemy - (You listen to too much FOX radio) I just watched a video (and you did too) where chopper pilots kill the enemy and the camera crew and later a dodge minivan with unidentified pedestrians and a small girl...
But apparently that isn't engaged enough for you..?

How many of these soldiers actually get adequate mental health counseling when they get back from war? This goes past a debreifing and the one time thing they get form the military. I'm talking full sessions for a couple months.
How many have adequate social support when they get home?
Those two things can, and do, go further than anyone could imagine

Your love of the chaos brothers' foolishness does not become your otherwise bright and intelligently provocative reputation.Chizzang wrote:Cap'n Cat wrote:native: Glenn Beck-fellatin' ass, flag-wrapped, psycho baby-killin' "Mission Accomplished", Reaganite, "white is right", jarhead ****.
In other instances, cleets, the intelligence of your quirky provocations is what makes them tolerable.

For a guy that never tires of telling us what a hero he is, you sure do whine and snivel a lot about the poor troops.
The troops are tools, nasal, tools of foreign policy. You use a tool until it breaks and then you get a new one. When the tool has served it's purpose it can be discarded or stored for later use. Now buck up and stop whimpering fer cryin' out loud....
You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by c squared. Then you energy.

You are correct. There are a few things about which I have little or no sense of humor. Cap's post is one of them, not because of what he said, the sarcasm of which might have been humorous in another context. My lack of humor is because the context is military suicides.
So, I say again, on this thread, fvck you very much.

Not sure if that was sarcasm or not, but I'm dead serious. There is also a ton of research stating the same thing.Wedgebuster wrote:It might be....it could be....IT IS, A HOME RUN!!!!!!clenz wrote:How many of these soldiers actually get adequate mental health counseling when they get back from war? I forgot, I used facts on the poli board. That isn't allowed unless they are terribly scewed one way or another, and I didn't include at least 7 person attacks.
