He did this a lot when he would visit the troops at Walter Reed, no media show, no hoopla. "W" did and still does care about our troops. I know of an instance where he met a family when their father/husband was buried at Arlington. Bush met with the family for a long time, no secret service, no media, just gave them his time.HI54UNI wrote:Interesting that there doesn't appear to be any press or media present. Maybe he actually cares about the troops instead of just using them for a photo op like most politicians.
These troop were coming home, not going.danefan wrote:Stand up move by him.
I hope he does the same thing with them when they come home too.

Agreed, in a Lennie from Of Mice and Men sort of way, GWB was a very nice guy.GannonFan wrote:While you can certainly argue and look poorly upon his tenure as President for a host of reasons, the one thing that almost always came across was that he certainly seemed like a very down to earth and decent person.

Well, I was going more for a George Malley type character from "Phenomenon" without ever becoming super intelligent. Lennie's more of a homicidal imbecile and hence, a bit more perjorative. But that's just IMHO.93henfan wrote:Agreed, in a Lennie from Of Mice and Men sort of way, GWB was a very nice guy.GannonFan wrote:While you can certainly argue and look poorly upon his tenure as President for a host of reasons, the one thing that almost always came across was that he certainly seemed like a very down to earth and decent person.

Albeit not the type of great inspirational leader who would without regard for his own personal safety (GannonFan wrote:While you can certainly argue and look poorly upon his tenure as President for a host of reasons, the one thing that almost always came across was that he certainly seemed like a very down to earth and decent person.
