How the hell does the NDSU defense score a field goal, much less two of them?

I dont think a team has ever come to Fargo either inside or out that didnt have some fans along.

I am sure some folks will go. I will not be in Fargo, but if they head to Montana State, I will be there. Have cleared the weekend and am ready to roll.

I believe the rule states that if the defense blocks an extra point and returns it to the opponents end zone they score 3 points. If thats correct, and they do that twice, the score is now 12-6. Its a given that RMU is going to get a safety so the smart money is on a 14-6 score. :ugeek:

Back in the early 90s I was in Sioux Falls for an Augastana game. They blocked an extra point try by the BISON and returned it all the way for the score. I think they got 3pts. It may have been a safety, but Im not sure. Its the only time I have ever seen it happen.

Blizzard conditions are the name of the game in Fargo through Thursday. Travel shouldnt be affected if RMU is flying in on Friday. Its probably the only day they can get in anyway. Too bad they cant come a day or so early, see the sights and enjoy the laid back atmosphere of the FM area. I think you folks from back east are really going to enjoy it.

No football news. As you might imagine things are quiet around the snow covered Fabulous Fargo Dome. Lights are burning but they are weak against the cold, dark and snow. If this game were outside it would be ruined. There is no reason in the world that a game of football, being played at this level, should have the weather be the main factor. Why leave the outcome to chance when there are two highly trained football teams ready to deploy well designed game plans? Football is always played best under ideal conditions. I dont care how many excuses folks make for the old fashioned outdoor fields.

About the only discussion is the scholarship difference. NDSU has 29 more scholarship players.

NCAA Rule 8-1-1 . On a "Try Down" two points are awarded for a touchdown and one point for a field goal or safety. That's the two-point conversion rule for the offense, or for a return for TD by the defense.

I think a few years ago a team (Furman?) lost a I-AA playoff game when they scored the 'winning' touchdown in the last minute, tried to run for two (either to get a 3-point lead or to avoid a blocked XP kick) but fumbled the pitch and it was returned for the winning 2-point score.

Exactly.
I think at one time, at some level (hs, college, pros), a blocked XP kick that was returned was only worth 1 point.
And might even be (or have been) some level (pros?), where an XP try that is run back by the defense is scored as a TD.
But I don't think there has ever been an XP scenario that is worth 3 points.

Thanks for the update on the 3 pointer for blocked Expt tries.

The weather continues to worsen. NDSU has called off classes as of noon today. Here in the central plains we are getting a dusting of snow ourselves. I just started my snow blower for the first time since last March and it fired right up! Once you learn how to live in it there is no more beautiful time of year than winter.

Keys to victory over winter:
1) wear proper clothing, footwear and gloves.
2) Do not expect alcohol to keep you warm
3) Stay hydrated. Its a desert out there in the winter
4) Make sure you are in good physical condition before shoveling
5) Take you time moving snow. Make sure you take breaks.

In Utah I could work in the morning in mild temps and by 1 be up at Alta or Snowbird for 1/2 day lift tickets. You can have summer, winter or all seasons in between on the same day by just changing your elevation. Here in the majestic, mysterious and foreboding Dakotas its all or none.

Im not sure how the weather is going to affect ticket sales. My guess: No effect

The weather isnt a factor on the internet. Tickets are easy to buy on line or by phone. Will Call only now.

Lets go BISON!!! Lets have a moment of silence for "The Old AC"!

(5 second time lapse)

GO BISON!!!

By the numbers from 30,000 feet:

NDSU #72 overall defense RMU #12

NDSU #90 Overall offense RMU #51.

All the teams NDSU beat this year had better overall offenses. SIU was #36, Indiana State #17, YSU #16. In fact NDSU held the #12 overall offense, Missouri State, to 3 pts.

********alert********
-The MSU game would have been a shut out but the the illegal hit on the 2nd half pooch kick was not called and that led to that 3 pt score. It is now become a point of controversy in Fargo. Kind of a side story to "The Game" on Saturday. Much like the UND folks have started their annual drive in the State Legislature to force a UND/NDSU game on their terms. A cheap attempt to turn the spotlight from the big story in Fargo. Its FCS Playoff Football in the Fabulous Fargo Dome!- (not for release)
********/alert*******

At #38 SIU had the best overall defense of any team NDSU played this year so RMU at #12 is bringing something we haven't seen. WIU was around #52 total defense.

There are a whole lot of teams with better offenses and defenses this year that didnt make the playoffs, some of them lost to The BISON.

*****JUST IN*******

Picture from the SDSU @ NDSU football game 1928 at Dacotah Field. We are expecting pictures from other games too, including Saturdays contest:

Shot is looking north at visitors side. The Home Stands are to the south. Attendance was 15,634, similar to many Dacotah Field crowds over the years.

Hey Bronco. That was some play. Thanks for the look.

A look at the campus after the big storm:

Image

You can barely see the Fabulous Fargo Dome in the background.

Here is a look at the FFD for any RMU players and fans that may be curious about the Prestigious Football Venue:

Image

This was before all the landscaping was completed so it looks a little different now. One of the guys installing the bushes is a friend of mine. He is Charles Hall the one on the left.

Heres how the FFD looks now. Note the pavement. The trees to the left were visible in the earlier photo. You can see how the landscaping changed the entire presentation of the building. NDSU has a wonderful Architectural Landscaping program.

Image

Its the defensive line and secondary that will win this for the BISON. Mvemjsunpx presented a nice direct analysis and drew the proper conclusion from the data, but the BISON have been defying that type of analysis all season. The few statistics they do control are the most important in the game. TDs allowed is at the top of that list.

The Fabulous Fargo Dome has been declared a "neutral site" by the NCAA. There will be no visual cues from the 4 video boards or the announcers. No "The March is On" etc. NDSU has issued an "ad hoc" underground press release asking NDSU fans to sustain the traditions on their own.

This is something we, as fans, can do, if the Dome Nazis (DN) are put on a leash. I was physically assaulted in what can only be described as a cowardly attack, by one of the DN apes at the SDSU game. My superb diplomatic skills quickly got the situation under control and the Police dispersed the scene without further trouble but be careful out there and bring some game.

That looks a little lopsided FargoBison. Ill take it though.

I just dont think RMU is a typical NEC team. You would think they were the BISON when comparing the Colonials to the NEC.

Its possible to hold them to 10,

Its going to be tough for NDSU to get 31.

The Colonials are in town. They will be at the FFD this afternoon.

Game on!

They are better than the NEC teams that we have played, but we beat those teams like a freaking drum. I think they may hang around for a while but NDSU will be too much for them to handle at the dome.

And to whoever analyzed these teams. Give me NDSU's OL and I'll take our defense as a unit over RMU. We've given up an average of 12 points in our last four games against score happy MVC teams.

Our defense has just dominated teams...

Last four games...
30 QBH
11 Sacks
6 INT
5 FF
3 defensive TDs
27 TFL
12 pts per game
