UNHWildCats wrote:The GOP continues to fight to keep tax cuts for the rich in place at a cost of over $700 billion. OK, fine, I understand, the GOP fights for the rich, thats fine, but cant they also fight for the poor?

While fighting for those tax breaks for people rolling around in millions of dollars, the GOP has blocked a move that would give seniors $250 to help offset the lack of social security increase next year. Republicans contend the country cant afford the $14 billion that such a move would cost...

$700 billion cost to government to help the rich stay richer = OK

$14 billion cost to government to help seniors get by with their day to day living = BAD

:ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:
Travis, you ignorant whore. You need to quit reading the Huffington Post. The GOP wanted to keep ALL the tax cuts in place, even Obama wanted to maintain them. Here's a headline for you

DEMOCRATS STRIKE AGAIN. FUCK AMERICA!

The issue is that both sides SAY they want to curb spending and reduce the deficit but they do not want to CONSIDER any hard sacrifice or decision for fear of losing thier seat.

-$24,000 put away for kids college (because I'm "rich", my kids don't qualify for student aid)
=$74,000
-$18,000 - 2 car payments (since both of us must drive lengthy distances)
=$56,000
-$26,000 - savings, since I pretty sure the money I've put into SSI will not be there when I retire
$30,000
-$12,000 - Groceries
$18,000
-$12,000 - gas, phone, power, water, sewer, garbage
$6,000 - remaining.

With that $6,000 I have to fund a 401k, buy braces, clothes, life insurance, entertainment, vacations, etc.

Is there some fluff in there? Sure....I could stop funding my kids college funds. i could get rid of a car payment and risk not making it to work because of a breakdown....I could reduce the amount I put into savings (impacting my FUTURE cash availability)...

point being, clenzy, $200,000 is by no means RICH. Do I have a good life? Sure....but I'm hardly RICH. And I'm not willing to make ANY of those sacrifices mentioned above if the government isn't willing to tighten THEIR belts first. :coffee: :coffee:
I thought you were driving a Corolla? What's the other car, a Bentley?
I have a Corolla, a Tundra and a Venza. :coffee:

That is for the "required" things Z. TBH and I still have gas to get to our jobs, car payments we are going to start taking over on TBH's car, and insurance for the both of us since neither of us have jobs that provide insurance, along with other bills for random house maintenance, vet bills, eye care bills, etc...

200K may not be "rich", but 200k will get you a better life anywhere in the country than 50k will.
OK. So let's cut the tax in half to get real. That alone gives you $8500 more in after tax dollars to ge with your $840 you started with.....that gives you $9340 vs AZ's $6000. You're fokking richer at $50k than AZ at $210k...what are you bitching about?

Clenzy, I'm gonna say this the only way I know how, and it's gonna come off as harsh, but that's just because reality is pretty harsh. If you wanted to make $200K+/yr. you should have persued a career that pays that kind of dough. I assume that you had some inkling of the payscale associated with your chosen profession?

Actually he can keep the whole ball of wax. A married couple making $50k together in 2010 pays a net $0 in taxes. I guess he may be paying some small amount of state tax depending upon where he lives, and the hidden stuff like gas tax, property tax, sales tax, etc. But definitely no federal.

That's why I laugh at teachers.

And why most teachers are union member/liberals. They chose a profession that pays like shit, so they want wealth redistribution to get more of the pie they didn't earn.

But you should know that when you give an example of your finances that the libtards and socialists are going to pontificate to you how you make too much money and how many starving Tropicals could be saved if you just gave a fraction of your sh!t away.

I'm not one of the greedy assholes that needs a ton of money to be happy, or goes into a profession that I hate just to make some money. If a family can't find a way to live off of 200K that is their own fucking fault. They can learn to live without the 900 channel DTV subscription, the Droid/Blackberry/iPhones that require data plans, eat less steak and more Mac and Cheese, etc...

It isn't my fault they choose to live in a place where $650K will only buy you what $200-300K will buy you else where. I understand the COL and what not. Fuck you if you don't like what it costs to live in your gated HOA area, move.

Well I'm glad to hear you aren't concerned with the money. That's the right attitude. You do what you love or what you have a passion for and generally you'll be happy. It doesn't suck if what you love also pays really well. It just sounded like you were bitching about income disparities in those earlier posts.

As to a couple being able to survive on 200k, I don't think that is the point AZ was trying to make. The fact that the Dems want to paint that couple as wealthy is the problem. Depending on where they live, 200k is either a pretty decent income or maybe even just getting by in a starter home. I don't doubt that a tax increase is necessary, but I'd like to see the folks making under $50k having to pony up a share of what they make, and like some others have said, some serious belt tightening on the expenditure side before tax increases are hashed out. Cut the fat first, get the federal house in order, then look at how to make up the revenue shortfall you couldn't fix with cuts by raising taxes.
Dear lord... please allow this dangerous combination of hair spary, bat slobber, and D.O.T. four automatic transmission fluid to excite my mind, occupy my spirits, and enrage my body, provoking me to kick any man or woman in the back of the head regardless of what he or she has or has not done unto me. All my Best, Earlie Cuyler.

I'm not one of the greedy assholes that needs a ton of money to be happy, or goes into a profession that I hate just to make some money. Don't get me wrong with what I've said. I agree with most of what you and Z are saying on the taxes. However, him saying that he had "only 6,000 extra dollars left over after everything" rubbed me wrong for some reason.
