There's an easy way to find out. Call them and see if they're cheaper than Geico for identical coverage. That should clear it right up. I'm a bottom line kind of guy.

I have heard that USAA is not always the cheapest. I will say that their customer service and claims (I've had at least four claims I can recall off the top of my head) are top notch. I had a parking lot fender bender three years ago where I was completely stopped and a woman looking for parking spaces on Black Friday, head on a swivel looking everywhere but in front of her, drove right into my car with her SUV, nose to nose. Then she had the gall to say it was the other way around. They paid my deductible immediately, trusting my side of the story. My car was repaired two days later with no out of pocket cost to me. They have very good control over their contracted body shops, and the ones they use are some of the best.

Lastly, how many year-end checks has Geico sent you over the years?

I said better not cheaper. There is no way they can be cheaper than GEICO. Do they have a lizard?

They do not have a lizard. They have an eagle that eats fucking lizards.

Like I said in the edit above, they may not be cheaper up front (you'd have to check), but be sure you account for the fact they give out a dividend from time to time when they have a low claims year. That makes an up front dollar for dollar comparison tricky. If Geico was only a few dollars cheaper/month I'd still go with USAA. I've gotten well over $1,000 in year-end checks over the years.

In the interest of full disclosure, I just double-checked and my year-end check this year was $127.40.

Andy, that hit my account on Dec 8. You should go back and look. If you didn't get one, you need to call them and let 'em know how to send it.

Well why didn't you just say that in the beginning? Like most red blooded Americans I choose my service providers and politicians based on the quality of their marketing. An eagle is a slam dunk for me.

Dude, they've been opened to all military for quite some time now. I first got USAA because my father was a Navy officer. Back then it was for military officers and their families. However, I can remember when I was an E-6 receiving info from them that they were opened to both officers and enlisted. I don't recall the year but I retired as an E-7 and I've been retired for about 5 years now.
That's not true. My father was enlisted Army in Vietnam and was not eligible until the past year or so. I joined when they were officer only. They opened it up to active enlisted about fifteen years or so ago. Then more recently, they started going back in time to allow enlisted folks who weren't eligible when they served. I misunderstood you the first time. The underline part is what I was actually talking about. Glad your father became eligible.

Mama Cat and I have USAA for everything. Father-in-law was a plank-holding submariner on the USS Kamehameah during Vietnam, as well as an Air Force sergeant at the Sioux City. Iowa, AFB for 25 years, so we got in on that. Very good people, low prices and super service.

Hey 93, I asked my wife about it and she says they took it out of the December car insurance payment. We only owe $35 this month.

Same here. It was the biggest check I've ever gotten from them since I've been a member.

You also cannot beat their rates for the amount of coverage you get. I might add that their customer service is the best I have ever dealt with.

Hmmm. I have yet to recieve this check....

I jointed in 2001 as an E-5 or 4. I can't remember. But I don't recall it being a hassle or a new program.

Active duty officer: eligible since the company was founded
Active duty enlisted: eligible since 1996
Honorably discharged prior to 1996 enlisted: eligible in 2009

I'm not sure how to make it any more clear.
