I just don't see it (outside of MSM).
dude... you live in a bubble. it's all good, so do i - i just recognize it. in 2004, I didn't know 10 people who voted for Bush... by your logic Bush should have lost by Mondale-like numbers...

thing is, the people in our lives generally are people who think like, or at least similarly, to the way do. we self-segregate in this way a little bit. we live in neighborhoods that tend to be one way or another, we go to churches that tend to be homogeneous politically... just the way it is.

in the case of Palin - the polling doesn't lie. most women DESPISE her. hardly surprising - women generally despise the GOP - the gender gap is HUGE. Palin's fans are generally pretty fanatic in their support, but in her case her support is a mile deep and an inch wide.

Aren't you jumping into hyperbole with the gender gap for political parties though? The last data I saw on this had political affiliation being roughly 36%-28% in favor of Dems for women. That's a gap, but it's not like the gap in other minority groups (Blacks for instance were something like 65%-6% in favor of Dems). I think women lean Democratic, but if women "generally despise the GOP", as you say, how could the GOP ever win elections with women being more than half of the electorate? Are women really voting for people they "despise"?

I certainly agree with the other point - Palin is completely unelectable on a national front. In spite of that, though, she could be a pretty significant king-maker - plenty of power there, especially in terms of fund raising, while not being viable on a ballot.

I use the phrase despise because when you look at the polling on Palin, her unfavorables are almost all in the "strong dislike" category... there isn't a lot of "somewhat dislike"

the gender gap is bigger than that when it comes to at-the-polls performance generally. while polling for generic party id it's a bit more balanced - but put two candidates head to head among women and the gap gets bigger.

My experience is the oppoite. Every semi-rational conk and chick I know can't stand her because she sets both of their causes back a long way.
Same here. Palin's a punch line with most of the women I know & and sexual fantasy & nothing more with most of the men (& women....this is Asheville). I don't know where you live SH, but it's definitely an anomoly if Palin is as popular as you claim. And short of Chris Christie running or an Obama pedophile sex scandal, he's a shoo-in for re-election now that unemployment dropped below 9%. His popularity was in the High '40's / low '50's with unemployment over 9%....logic would tell you that will only go higher if unemployment drops lower.

Again, I'll offer a $100 bet about Obama being re-elected (and I'm not voting for him...just being a realist). And we can make it $300 additional bet that Palin will not win regardless. I'll pay you cash if I lose....you make a donation to CS (25%) and your local animal shelter (75%) if I win. That's how strongly I feel about Palin's lack of chances to win a presidiential election....hell, I'll bet she won't get nominated tohave a chance to run.... :geek:

Palin's one issue, but you said that women despise the GOP. That's something else entirely. I'll certainly grant you that the Democratic party normally wins the women's vote, but it's rarely been a determining factor in Presidential elections (although sometimes they've lost the women's vote there too). The gap is there, but it's not huge.
