Just teasin Willie. The Texas/LSU t-shirt fans are the worst but you don't make an ass of yourself. Nothing wrong with supporting another school.

Not dumbass at all. It's tongue-in-cheek since so many people in FCS land are so anti FBS.

Don't back down Sly. They are t-shirt fans. If you went to a college that had DI football, you are only a real fan of that team, and a t-shirt fan of anyone else. The only exception to that is Z because we're not sure Idaho counts as DI football. 8-)

I didn't go to Montana. I went to a D-III school. I would have attempted a walk-on for Montana, but they didn't have my area of study either. I applied and was accepted to Ohio State University, but obviously I chose to play as well so that was not an option.

The only people you can really call t-shirt fans, are those who "like" a team and have never seen them in person. Some people have certain circumstances (money or distance) that affect them from seeing their teams live. But I've seen OSU 3 times (twice in Minneapolis and last season in Columbus), so I'm just putting it out there that I'm the furthest from a t-shirt fan. Same goes for the Yankees, I've seen 10 games of theirs, including 5 in the old and new stadiums.

So 3 games gets you "furthest from" status? :?

I guess that makes me a real UMass, Villanova, JMU, W&M, Richmond, Towson.... fan.

Where do I live 89? Montana...quite a distance from Columbus, or any other venue they play at on a regular basis. Even when I saw them in Minneapolis, I had to drive 5 hours to see them.

I put t-shirt fans in two categories. The first is the doucebags that bleed the school colors they never went to and act like they did. Thy also talk in first person about those schools. Example: we just got the nimber one recruit or we are going to beat oklahoma. The second cheer for the team but realize they never went there and don't act like it. I feel like Willie and Clenz fall into the second group. Most importantly they would root for the school they went to over the inert wish they did.

Exactly. Did I go to tOSU? No. Could I? I was accepted there so yes I could have. I can say I sat in Ohio Stadium and watched them play against Penn State in November. There are thousands that say they would die for them and never will sit where I was. That'd be where my avatar came from...my seat.

I'm only embarrassed about being a UNI fan come playoff time. ;)

I was accepted to UM, but the tuition my freshman/sophomore year would have been 42k and 44k my jr/sr years. I wasn't willing to pay 160k-200k for a slip of paper. Couple that with the fact that Ann Arbor is 800 miles from my home town (keep in mind I've still never been on a plane) and my girlfriend (now wife) was at UNI my choice was pretty easy.

I've seen the UM football team in person a couple times (never at Michigan Stadium though, I NEED to get there), the baseball team once, track team twice, and am on the wait list for season tickets for football. I wish there was LAX in Iowa, I'd catch the new varsity LAX team....I want to get to a hockey game as well for UM.

My wife is applying to take a couple classes in Ann Arbor as a certificate add on to her Masters. She would have classes there one weekend a month for 2 years....I would catch plenty of UM stuff then.

I do agree about hating the douchebag never had anything to do with the university and never still t-shirt fans though.

Now I'm not saying they're a cult, but the the "group-think" that their fans are exhibiting has actually fascinated me. The fact that normal people can be so loyal to one man/institution that they've rationalized irrational thoughts is amazing.

Also, the excuse that "you don't understand because you're not part of the Penn State community" is terrible. Again, that's exactly what cult members say. Penn State fans need to open their eyes and realize that there's a reason why most everyone is against Joe Pa here...and it's not 'cause we all hated him and the school. Penn State fans (not all) seriously need to take the blue-colored glasses off and see how irrational they're being.
I routinely read the rivals.com and scout.com Penn State forums and several of the more prominent Penn State blogs. Not once have I even seen a poster suggest that, "you don't understand because you're not part of the Penn State community".

In truth, there are varying opinions on the matter, even on those boards and blogs. The group-think comes in when people who aren't close to Penn State get their news primarily from national news outlets, especially ESPN. They listen to a sports pundit's three-minute screed or read a couple of incomplete and poorly researched articles and think they know everything there is to know about the story. Those of us who are Penn Staters typically follow the story a lot more closely than the general public. We actually know how the 1998 investigation went down. We know about the discrepancies between the grand jury presentment and witness testimony. We know that the grand jury presentment was leaked and that no action has been taken to find the source. We know that Gov. Corbett has much to lose if details of the 1998 investigation are widely publicized. We know that many members of the Board of Trustess knew about Sandusky from 1998 and that many of them have connections to the Second Mile Foundation.

It isn't cult-like behavior or irrational group-think you are seeing from Penn State fans. It's a discussion among people who are far better informed about this story than you will ever be.
Guilty on 45 of 48 counts. Looks like the jury agreed with us "less informed" people...

At what point did I say that Sandusky is not guilty? I never did.

As for the cultish behavior of Penn Staters, I don't suppose you realize that every member of the jury had ties to Penn State, including employees and faculty.

JoePa reported what he knew to higher authority. Remember, McQueary didn't tell him everything. Curley, Schultz and Spanier covered it up. JoePa did not.

The victims are on record through their attorneys that they do not blame JoePa. Kind of hard to bring a civil suit against him when they make statements like that.

To me Joe Pa missed his chance of nipping this in the bud when the opportunity presented itself.Still can't believe he came up with that lazy excuse of not wanting to interfere with vacation plans of school president to remove a child molester from society!!!!!!

Agreed nobody on that jury should have served jury members should have had no connection to the school.
