Re: 2012 FCS vs. FBS
NM State is FBS in name only, but we lost so much on offense and will have a lot of question marks heading into the season otherwise I would say we have a good shot an upset there.
As far as Colorado goes…well we knocked off a Pac 12 team last season, maybe luck will have our side and we can beat 2 Pac 12 teams in back to back seasons.
BTW not a fan of 2 FBS games. Damn these budget cuts.

Kinda doubt that one, Army has vastly improved under Ellerson and had the top rushing offense in the FBS last season, only mention it because, well hell their my FBS team . Anyways my picks for the Big Sky:Tribe4SF wrote:Another good shot with Stony Brook @ Army on 9/28.

Re: 2012 FCS vs. FBS
In my book, EWU/UM/MSU/Weber/CP over Idaho (I know not all of these are scheduled) would NOT be even close to an upset. Nice easy way to get a FBS brownie point win, and just about the only one we can get here in the West, except possibly for San Jose State and UNLV.
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

6 Big Sky wins over FBS? That would shatter some records... 6 total upsets would probably be a good year for FCS

Re: 2012 FCS vs. FBS
The Southland's best shot at beating a FBS is not listed in the initial post. It's McNeese State at Middle Tennessee State. The Southland actually has a winning head to head record against the Sun Belt since the Sun Belt football conference was established. Middle Tennessee State is coming off a 2-10 season.
It's understandable that this one was not on the list because it was only recently scheduled after Texas A&M bought McNeese State out in order to play Louisiana Tech on ESPN to open the season.

Like I said, I probably missed a couple. Quite frankly, I glossed over McNeese's because I didn't think Middle Tennessee State was an FBS team...JohnStOnge wrote:The Southland's best shot at beating a FBS is not listed in the initial post. Re: 2012 FCS vs. FBS
San Jose State has improved a lot since we beat them. Fo the California teams, Sac State has the best chance over New Mexico State. I think tougher road for UC Davis and Cal Poly.

Sorry, with our coach and it'll be an upset if we keep them from scoring 50Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:Unless I'm missing some, which I probably am, that's 95 games. Assuming the average of about 10% are "upsets," that's 9 or 10 wins. Who are they?

9/1 - W&M @ Maryland

9/1 - Southern @ New Mexico (C'mon TJ, doesn't get much easier than UNM )

I guess I have to take back what I said about McNeese at Middle Tennessee State being the best shot at a Southland win over a FBS.

Re: 2012 FCS vs. FBS
Yeah, you're funny. Check our record vs SFA the past 10 years. You'll find we're 7-3 and haven't lost to SFA since 2006.
Even in their best (recent) years we came away with a W vs them. They've become our "we ain't gonna lose to these guys" team.

Re: 2012 FCS vs. FBS
I just said "best shot." If I had to say now I'd say SFA is going to be better than McNeese on the FCS end of the two matchups and Middle Tennessee State will be better than Texas State on the FBS end of the matchup.CatMom wrote:Yeah, you're funny. If you look at the way Sagarin's ratings ended last year, for example, the ratings for the four teams ended :
143 SFA
169 MTSU
173 McNeese
178 Texas State
I just think that if one had to pick between the two matchups the higher likelihood of a FCS win is associated with the SFA/Texas State matchup.

I'll bite:
BIG SKY:
8/30 EWU over Idaho
CAA:
9/8 Maine over Boston College
MVFC:
9/1 SDSU over Kansas
SOCON:
11/17 Samford over Kentucky (Joker is a joke)
I don't see much else. As for Stony Brook, IMHO, I think they have a better shot sneaking up on Syracuse instead of Army. Syracuse will be coming in to that game on 9/15 after getting a complete beatdown at the hands of crook Kiffin and Southern Cal at the Meadowlands the week before.

Re: 2012 FCS vs. FBS
OK. EWU over Idaho is a given. Your picks, however, are all downhill from there. Maine over BC? That's worth a laugh. SDSU isn't going to beat Kansas, either. Samford over Kentucky? I'd accept Appy or even Wofford. But not Samford.g-webb1994 wrote:I'll bite:

EWash over Idaho and Weber over Fresno. After coming oh so close the last three times vs MWC teams, Weber will get it done this time vs a lousy Fresno St team.

Why bring this shit up? All it is is bait for you-know-who. Some NDSU fans actually want to be able to talk FCS without having to weed through the trolls and the comments they draw out of others.grizzaholic wrote:I thought Colorado State was going to just forfeit so they wouldn't get any injuries from playing NDSU?

Re: 2012 FCS vs. FBS
While I'm not so sure that I'd call Weber over Fresneck a "done deal" in the same way I'd say for EWU/UM over Idaho, I wouldn't write it off, either. Fresneck isn't what they have been, so a Wildcat upset is definitely within the realm of possibility.WeberAlum02 wrote:EWash over Idaho and Weber over Fresno. And I, for one, would dearly LOVE to see it happen.

So far we're at 9 upsets. I had 4 of them, barely missing a 5th with W&M and Maryland.
