Verdict is in for Roger

Post by grizzaholic »

What will it be?

I say not guilty because he lied to a bunch of cheating, thieving liars.

What happens now when Roger stands for election to the Hall of Fame? Based on the numbers, he's in, so any voter who doesn't vote for him will be doing based on a belief that he used PEDs. It will be interesting to see how many voters will, in coming years, disregard Roger's assertion that he was found "not guilty."

He will get in, IMHO - but hopefully they make him wait

While they're at it, let Pete Rose in.

Saw him in Vegas. Signing autographs for money.

He'll get in someday, but will have to wait with the other steroid bastians like McGwire, Bonds, Palmeiro, Sosa etc.

McGwire is never getting in. Bonds will eventually get in. And I don't think either Palmeiro or Sosa will get in.

Would you care to explain that? During his career, McGwire never burned the sportswriter bridges that Bonds did.

While it will be tough for ANYONE caught up in the juice mess to get in, I think McGwire's road should be easier than the others for that reason alone. As far as Palmiero, all anyone will remember is that stupid finger he waved while lying to Congress. I'm not sure about Sosa, but he probably doesn't have the numbers; if I remember right, he suffered a HUGE drop-off after he quit the juice.

If we're setting the roids issue aside, how does 609 homers and 2,400 hits not get him in?

McGwire's main numbers that would get him into the HoF would be the power ones. And those would have been skewed the most.

Sosa is close to the same with a little more hits. His cork bat incident won't help either.

And after looking at Palmeiro's numbers, I think he should get in, but I'm not sure he could get enough votes. He has the same argument Bonds has with his numbers being so good. Basically, what I'm saying is that even without steroids, both Bonds and Palmeiro would have been HoFers. Same goes for Arod.

It will be a full generation IF any of those guys EVER make the Hall.

Bonds, ARod, McGwire, Sosa, Clemens, Palmiero, they are all the poster boys of the steroid generation. All of them have "HOF Numbers", but the writers have already spoken and none of these guys have got a sniff close to being voted in, nor will they.

I think the way the voting goes is you get a 15-year window as long as you get x percent of votes each year, after that it goes to a veterans committee. If they're not going to let Pete in, I don't see how these guys ever get in either....

How does 609 homeruns not qualify for the Hall of Fame? :dunce:

Rose should get in as should Clemens. But not while they are alive. Neither should have the satisfaction of knowing that they made it to the Hall of Fame. That should be their punishment.

And what kind of crime is "lying to Congress"? Shouldn't it be a crime for Congress to lie to us?

That's a completely different issue, Hen. It's not the writers nor the Veterans Committee that hasn't let Pete in. It's that stupid ex post facto law the idiots Bart Giamatti and Fay Vincent unilaterally passed that keeps him out. Nobody really knows how a vote including Rose would go, and we'll NEVER know until that asinine bullcr@p gets repealed.

Point of clarification....

He was found not guilty of perjury....not not guilty of using steroids.
