I don't know of a single person that was opposed to going after Al-Queda and the Taliban in Afganistan after 9/11.

In Kosovo, the US went in with a plan, an exit strategy and allies. As a result, ONLY TWO Americans died in combat in the Balkans. Compare that to the 18 combat deaths in Grenada. Talk about wasted lives.

I believe that Tripoli declared war on the U.S. The Barbary states declared war at the drop of a hat though.

I believe that Tripoli declared war on the U.S. The Barbary states declared war at the drop of a hat though.

Declaration of war and naval blockade
On Jefferson's inauguration as president in 1801, Yussif Karamanli, the Pasha (or Bashaw) of Tripoli, demanded $225,000 from the new administration. (In 1800, Federal revenues totaled a little over $10 million.) Putting his long-held beliefs into practice, Jefferson refused the demand. Consequently, in May 1801, the Pasha declared war on the United States, not through any formal written documents but by cutting down the flagstaff in front of the U.S. Consulate. Algiers and Tunis soon followed their ally in Tripoli.

In response, Jefferson sent a group of frigates to defend American interests in the Mediterranean, and informed Congress. Although Congress never voted on a formal declaration of war, they did authorize the President to instruct the commanders of armed vessels of the United States to seize all vessels and goods of the Pasha of Tripoli "and also to cause to be done all such other acts of precaution or hostility as the state of war will justify."

The American navy went unchallenged on the sea, but still the question remained undecided. Jefferson pressed the issue the following year, with an increase in military force and deployment of many of the navy's best ships to the region throughout 1802. USS Argus, USS Chesapeake, USS Constellation, USS Constitution, USS Enterprise, USS Intrepid, USS Philadelphia and USS Syren all saw service during the war under the overall command of Commodore Edward Preble. Throughout 1803, Preble set up and maintained a blockade of the Barbary ports and executed a campaign of raids and attacks against the cities' fleets.

We are losing there.....we only hold one or two cities, and that is tenuous at best....had we poured the combined resources from Iraq & Afghan into Afghan, then this would have been over a while ago....instead, we leave our soldiers confined to tiny outposts subject to daily attacks with little or no support....either we go all in via the Powell Doctrine or get out and call it a draw like Vietnam....but, let's not half-ass it anymore like we have the previous 7 years....

might want to take a break from the faux news channel and join the rest of us in reality.....we CAN win without a doubt, but after 7 years of fumbling the job, we sure haven't made it a priority....

Ya know, Kyle, you were funny at first...you are now getting old...

Fox news is as dishonest as CNN...and what Appa said is the truth...don't believe it...I can hook you up with some just returned military folks who will basically validate what he said...

Bush screwed the pooch in Afghanistan by ignoring it and diverting much needed resources to his personal Iraq war...Afghanistan could have/should have been an example of what good we could do when we set out minds to it...but Bush and cronies totally screwed up (yea, I'm ashamed to say I voted for him, so don't even go down your predictable road of accusing me of being a democrat)...

Get your nose out of the butt of Fox News and learn something, will ya.....

So, the president should act based on opinion polls? Sounds like you're a Clinton man youngin. He was notorious for relying on opinion polls. You need to read up on history and actual facts, not what Papa O'Reilly tells you.

I don't think you're correct anyhow. I did not vote for Obama (or McCain), but please show us the links proving Bush's "stimulus" package was supported by the polls and Obama's wasn't.

My state wanted to pay a private law firm $60K to figure out how to use the stimulus money correctly. What a waste of taxpayer dollars! The State has the biggest law firm in Delaware: the Department of Justice, and it's already on the state payroll. :x
