I like Philly Union too.

Also, I thought Vancouver was having a naming contest so we might see their name change by they start in the MLS. I like their name so I hope that it wins the contest. I would also be happy with something like Vancouver Whitecaps FC or something.

Dgreco - if you open a photobucket account, you can auto resize that way. I know, a few steps more...

I just do not feel like going to photobucket everytime I want to post a picture or something. This is the only forum I have ever seen where a picture doesn't get auto-resized and then you can click on it to see the full size.

Not true - I tested your files at AGS, and another vbulletin site I frequent - previewed the posts, and both were just as large at both other sites as here.

I am on a few message boards, and I have NEVER seen one that auto resizes. I know a few that regect if too large.

I go to chris creamers sports logos, urbanplanet.org, d2football, and sometimes check out marlinsbaseball.com and they all autoresize the picture.

http://boards.sportslogos.net/index.php?showtopic=65708

quick example of the resize. It is extremely convenient.

Hmm - no images when I click on the link - just links to other images - do I need to be registered?

Anyways - bring it up in the suggestion area. If other boards can do it, maybe way to do it here.

sentiment among most is to follow the lead of Seattle and Portland and save the familiar name but the decision has not been made yet.

MLS will announce next expansion in 90 days...

Post by EPJr »

MLS is at 18 and will need two more to reach the FIFA limit of 20 after 2012

My guess is St. Louis and Montreal for the last two they seem to be the frontrunners.

ImageImage

They maybe be pushed by group from Queens NY

It'll be interesting. St. Louis is putting together a pretty good proposal and Garber has said before that he would like a team in St. Louis.

Montreal has the fan support but the man behind the bid is crazy. He tried to talk Garber down from the 40 million expansion fee to 10 million.

NYC2 is interesting.

Miami could make a comeback if Barcelona still wants to invest there.

Ottawa will try again as well.

I don't know if Canada will get a 3rd team though.

Atlanta may bid again as they did before they pulled theirs last time.

By 2011 do you think we will see the two texas teams move east? Or will they have an unbalanced conference alignment?

I'm confused by that as well. FIFA says they only will allow 20 teams. I think its to keep the market from becoming saturated and allowing the league to collapse.

Found this

- FIFA president Sepp Blatter has stated his desire to implement a radical proposal that would limit Europe’s domestic leagues to a maximum of 16 teams.

In an interview with Germany’s Bild newspaper Thursday, the 69-year-old Blatter also hinted that he would push for greater restrictions on foreign players in these leagues at next year’s FIFA Congress.

“Ideally, each national league would have 16 teams,” Blatter said. “At our congress in 2007 we will discuss this, as the market and the players cannot cope with so much football.”

The Bundesliga currently has 18 teams, while the top leagues in Spain, England, Italy and France have 20.

The 20 team limit might work for European countries - but to me, that is impractial in North America, which is much larger geographically than Europe. It is assinine to say that England, which is tiny, could have as many teams in one league and all of Canada/United States.

I agree Jon. The US is much larger. However soccer is not nearly as well embraced from in US/Canada so its tougher to sell games. It is catching on quickly though and making great progress. I say stop at 20 teams for a while and let the league develop. The problem we will run into is having enough talent to go around. The MLS has a salary cap will many overseas leagues do not. This makes it hard to keep quality players in the MLS.

Which is true - but is 20 the right number for US/Canada?

For now yes. I think the league should stop when it hits 20 for at least 5 years and see where it is headed. Maybe more expansion will be called for then. I don't think FIFA should have a say in size though.

I like the 20 team limit to allow each team to develop. If a particular ownership cannot make it happen there will be alternative cities available to take the team. This also will allow the lesser leagues to continue to develop in the non-MLS cities. The limit is just for the Premier League in each country. They can have as many other leagues as they wish.

Do you know when this article was written, dback? It says they'll consider this rule at their 2007 meeting...

I like the idea of stopping at 20... then finding a way to make it work with USL for a true pyramid with relegation. I think what MLS has found is that their fans want a "just like Europe" experience... and relegation would do it.
