Christian Right predicts future...

Post by Chizzang »

Saw this the other night:
Got a good laugh out of it

Focus on the Family made 34 specific, detailed predictions about what would happen in “Obama’s America” if he got elected 4 years ago...
They came up 1-for-34.

"Re-reading the Focus letter four years later, what strikes me most — besides how utterly wrong they are about everything — is how parochial their imagination is when attempting to envision a political dystopia. The horrors they predict are almost all narrowly targeted at and tailored toward them. I’ve read a ton of dystopian stories, good and bad, and this is the most cluelessly self-absorbed vision of its kind that I’ve ever seen."

I think that anybody who attempts to make specific predictions about the future is likely to be mostly wrong on specifics. But I do think that the impression created about the general direction of the country is correct. For example: There is no question that that the Obama Administration has been hostile to the coal industry. I also believe that gasoline would be cheaper per gallon right now if Obama had not been elected; especially if we could have gotten Democrats in general out of the way.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Indeed John...
Thinking you know something that you don't is absolutely tricky business - Christianity in general has made a living out of absurd misrepresentations - but I guess to each their own

My prediction had McCain won is we'd be mired deep in the middle of World War III with tens of millions of Americans dead and China occupying all of Alaska and Canada

:coffee: I'm usually spot on with these sorts of things - all I can say is Thanks to Jesus Christ our American Savior Obama got elected

Yeah, the country would really be humming right now if we would just let Republicans take the reins...er, wait. We already did that, and they almost destroyed the country as we know it.

You are dangerously delusional. :ohno: :ohno:

This has the makings of a beautiful thread...

If Mitt gets elected:

The economy will continue to sputter

He will be called a RINO by conks starting in 5 years

Liberals will still be socialistic, commie, takers

Kalm and the Mrs. Will continue to visit Missoula at LEAST every 2nd year

Polson will still be loud

GATW and Vidav will still be quiet

EWU will still come up with good skill position players

Red turf will still be beautiful

Roe v Wade will never get overturned.
There will never be a constitutional ban on gay marriage.

The arguing back and forth on the aforementioned issues is solely to drum up the idiots on both sides to get to the polls and donate to campaigns.

You might want to share that little tid-bit with your friends Bro...
Jimmy Swaggert and Billy Graham and all those important Christians have been talking directly to God and predicting the future for decades now - and of course God has never gotten one prediction correct yet

God doesn't suck, people who try to prophesize suck, and I would very much doubt Billy Graham would lay out any prophesies. He may make predictions that people try to masquerade as a prophesy, but he knows better.

Prophesy is best left alone.

You, of all people should understand that if there is a Creator, that Creator is outside the boundries of our science and could easily be able to predict future occurrences. For if a Creator made all that there is, then they are not bound by our rules. Pretty simple stuff even the physicists agree upon.

As stated before, I am not looking to derail the predictions on this thread, just needed to point out fact from fiction.

Now just waiting for the cheapass atheists to chime in with their total bullshit.

Well you know very well that I think the idea of God is the single most important idea that occurs naturally inside each human being - Although it does appear to be something innate to only the human species - I think it's the most exciting and wonderful idea that two people can discuss

That said:
Christianity is a rigolade lark that's mostly been played out...
For human spirituality and inner connectedness to God to grow, we need a new understanding, a new teaching that includes more truth and less dogmatic antiquity and ignorant arcane nonsense...

Humanity needs a new religion - and truth should be it's foundation - and faith should not be required

Just my 2 cents

Nice non sequitur.

The Bible says that if there is going to be prophesy from God, it will come true. This was in place to prevent charlatans from using God as the source of a (false) prophecy when He wasn't. That was the litmus test. If a prophecy was false, it wasn't from God.

So if it comes true then it's attributed to God
If it does not come true then it's not attributed to God
Isn't that just a little bit too convenient..?

Humanity doesn't need a new religion, spiritual or otherwise. All religion and anti-religion requires dogma. Dogma requires organization to perpetuate it. Dogmatic organizations always become intolerant and oppressive.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

In the old testament, there were actual prophets that conveyed God's Word. These prophets would obviously hold great influence over what God's people were to do with their lives. God told them that if a prophesy didn't come true, it was because it wasn't from Him and helped to ferret out the false prophets.

As to your statement about knowing anything about God, I fully agree.

I got no problem with that - but - people (humans) tend to be innately religious
Like it or not that's just the way it is

So accepting that fact one can only hope to "improve" the dogma by including observable truths as part of the new belief system...

Other than that we're stuck with the crappy ones we've got now - which are embarrassingly inadequate in light of the general progress of human culture
