Hmm. Two former SEALs disobeyed orders, recovered 3 of 4 wounded/dead Americans HOURS after initial the attqack. Repeatedly asked for cover fire. Died defending the compound. When help was within half the time of onset to end.

Seems odd that an indirect fire weapon like a mortar would be deployed in such a way that it was in line-of-sight of its intended target, which it must have been if it was being painted with a laser. Could have been a trap to get some of our aircraft into Stinger range using the mortar as bait.

Not that odd at all. Many muj who use mortars in Iraq and Afghanistan don't understand how to use mortars as indirect fire weapons. They have to eyeball the target and make adjustments based on their observations.

Trained mortar crews can put frequently put the first round on target with nothing more than grid coordinates and elevation variance.
