Top ten reasons (Yankee's)

Post by Cleets Part 2 »

Top ten reasons $220 Million won't get you a title (again and again and again)

1. Teams hold relay races around the bases as Jorge' Posada can now only roll the ball to second base...
2. 220lb. Nick Swisher, 40 yr. old Johnny Damon, and a lackadaisical Xavier Nady are slowly jogging after fly balls in the new cavernous outfield...
3. Cody Ransom or Angel Berroa will actually be forced to play whole games when the ancient starting line-up begins to grind down come July...
4. A-Rod fails to deliver another clutch hit - day after day after day...
5. Mariano Rivera adds 85 more innings to his 40 year old arm...
6. Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy will actually need to start some games when Sabathia collapses after 175 innings. (Hotdog & 12-pack in hand)
7. Jeter slowly turns into David Eckstein as he loses his mysterious "intangibles"
8. They watch Teixeira instantly turn into Jason Giambi and realize, "we just paid $180 Million for that"
9. After 60 innings A.J. Burnett visits Dr. James Andrews... (for the third time in his career)
10. C.C. Sabathia proves again (and again) he can't pitch with the world watching... 1-3, 7.92 ERA. in the play-offs and a career 10.72 ERA against the Red Sox

Yikes... I'm excited to watch this season...

As are the Twins....and pretty much any team that has a payroll less than the top 4-5 paid players on the Yankees

Start bitching once we win a world series again, what's it been since 2000 and still you suckers can't get over the fact that buying players doesn't win chips. I hope the Yankees, in all my hatred for what they have become, win 130 games this season, and sweep the playoffs. All of that just so I can really hear some bitching about payroll.

When you spend that kind of money you shouldn't have to "hope", but after 8 years, we understand.

hence my bolded part AZ. I have said time and time again, my favorite team in baseball is the NY Yankees, and my most hated team in all of baseball is the NY Yankees. I hate the spending as much as anyone, believe me, but there is a difference between bitching about how much they spend, and just making fun of them for sucking even though they spend so much. I feel like everytime the yankees success is brought up it is shrouded by the payroll. I say payroll schmayroll, if they win, who gives a shit, get a richer owner, and try to emulate what they do. If they lose, again who gives a shit, everyone else is doing better for cheaper, so let them waste money.

I know you aren't dumb enough to believe that getting a richer owner will help the Twins payroll to be more than that of the top 4 Yankees. You realize that the top 4-6 Yankees salaries for this year is higher than nearly half of the teams in the majors entire payroll right?

Sorry, I thought using the term "payroll schmayroll" and the 3 laughing smilies, would lend itself to people knowing those last 2 sentences were in jest. Of course the richer owner is not the answer, but if you want to find a better example than the Twins, I would say the Buccos. They have one of the richest owners in the league, but do not WANT to spend the money. The reason the Yankees can, and will spend like they do, is because they have the market. They have NYC, an extreme advantage, they have legacy, another extreme advantage, and they have CASH, a HUGE advantage. And yes, TTBF ;) , I do realize that, my question to you is, why do you give a flying fuck, how much the yankees spent on their top 4-6 guys?

It's not the market that's the problem for the Twins. The Twin Cities are the 18th largest market in baseball (14th largest in the US with the biggest 4 sharing their market with another team)...

the problem for the Twins is the Metrodome. They control almost none of the revenue in the building aside from ticket sales and and twins merchandise.

Their tv ratings are HUGE their radio ratings are HUGE (although they were bigger when they were on the 50,000 watt powerhouse WCCO)

as was said above... they have a very rich owner... the father of who I SWEAR was the inspiration for Mr. Burns. When it was announced that Pohlad died... people cheered... really... the man was a villain.

thing is... fans in Minnesota like homegrown product, and they're okay with being underdogs... but if you look at hat is happening with the Wild... their patience runs thin after awhile when results are mediocre. They also get pretty tired of losing their favorite players to free agency or trades in their contract year. Johan Santana and Torrii Hunter are still sorely missed by fans... (that said Corey Koskie and Doug Mientkiewicz are too... even though they aren't exactly world beaters)

The thing fans have with the Yankees isn't about them buying the WS every year... since they don't... we all get off on the schadenfraude of watching them piss away all that money... but it's really more about poaching everyone elses homegrown talent rather than developing any of it themselves. that has nothing to do with your squad winning or losing... it has to do with fans developing a bond with a player and then, just when they get good, having that player snatched away from them. the Twins don't deal with the Yankees much... thankfully... for us it's always been the Mets that get our best players after we've turned them in to stars (Frank Viola and Johan)

I never get to see Twins games anymore. Cedar Falls is dead in Chicago teritory, so Cubs White Sox, Black Hawks, Bulls, etc... is all I hear.

Is there a way to watch Twins games online free?
